Sony PSP Midnight Launch at Wal-Mart!

Just called one of the Wally World stores here in Pensacola, FL. She told me they [will] have 110 PSP's in stock for the midnight launch. Tonight at 10PM Central they will hand out a number slip, at midnight tonight they will allow the PSP's to be bought, people with numbers first. SWEET!! I am totally amazed that our little podunk Wally World would have that many units in stock for opening day. I'll still be stopping by BB tomorrow to snatch some games with the $5 off coupons and to get the $20 GC with purchase of 3 games.

You all might wanna call your local Wally World and see if they are doing the same kind of midnight launch... Some of you live in larger cities where the Best Buy stores are going to be cluster-you-know-whats tomorrow morning for their launch, you might be better off getting the PSP itself at Wally World.

I'm no expert on market dynamics, but, from what I've heard, there seem to be a lot of people complaining about the $250 price point for a handheld, and also complaining about the $50 price for many of the top-end games.

In addition, it seems that many stores will have a pretty decent stock. You might be able to re-sell it for $275-300, but probably not much more, because anyone who really really wanted it that badly already purchased it as an import.

can you tell me where I might be able to get the $5 off coupons for PSP games you mentioned?

According to the ad this week, the free PSP GamePro guide (available in the store) was supposed to have a coupon for $5 off any PSP game. Reports are that the coupons did not get printed in the guide, so rumor has it they will be handed out or printed and available in the store. Not sure how many per person/purchase can be used.

picked up one at the lewisville, tx store....there was no line whatsoever...we got there about 10:30 and just walked arround the store for an hour and then waited half and hour...they brought a box of them up to a register at the front of the store...

also picked up ridge racer for $39...cusa has them for $36 though...

mine does have 1 dead pixel, but it is barely noticeable...

<---happy camper....

Is it going to be worth it to go scoop one up and gouge it on Ebay if I don't have anything to do tomorrow? 🙂

I was thinking the same thing, and decided not too. I could have got it for 225 + tax cause i know someone that works there.

I had originally pre-ordered mine on Ebgames.com, then cancelled. I had the bundle for $400, but opted out since I got my ATI X800XL for my new setup. Price too steep for portable gaming, for my tastes. Looks like a great system, but looking at the games at launch didn't impress me. The only one that did was Metal Gear AC!D. Sure the games will get better though. There going to be GTA version for PSP?

GTA for PSP, ships 5/15

Thanks for the heads up OP!

I picked up the value pack and Wipeout Pure for $311.45 with tax. Screw those bloated pre-orders. The Bloomington Normal IL Wal-Mart had over 50 left they said. Im getting my WI-FI Router set up and im going to try out some online gaming.

Dont forget you will need a USB A to MINI B cable to transfer schtuff to your Memory Stick Duo.

Yeah, there are a ton left at the Wal-Mart I was at (Manhattan, KS). They had a sign saying that due to the availiblity concerns each customer was only allowed 1.

shipped without a cable?

yeah, the Jap launch was the BIG one that needed to go on Ebay. Now, the PSP is just like any other console. Nothing special about it. But if you got the jap one, you can show that off to your friends. BTW, the analog in the thing sucks. So pointless and useless.

I'm amazed that people are willing to shell out $250.00 or so for a handheld with no games, and a tiny selection of games to choose from. To each his own I guess..

I have to say, the game selection for the psp is a fair bit larger at launch then the DS was. Still, that is an outrageous price for a handheld. About 5 months ago they said their value pack (psp + 3 games) was going to be $300 or just around it. Then they jacked up the price so now I can't afford it! Should have expected it though...

For those wondering about stock, I just got back from my local WalMart and there were at least 25 systems still there, so I don't think stock is a big problem for this system.

Thanks for the tip! Given that, I'll probably wait for Costco to carry it -- get some small discount/bonus accessory/etc.

Yes but... Since DS is backwards compatible with GBA and GBC, games were plentiful. Not to mention they are in $30 range versus close to $50 for PSP. There is an adaptor for DS that will turn DS into movie and MP3 player which can be had for ~$30 that uses much cheaper CF cards, instead of MS Duo. Looks like I'll have to wait for about a year when there are plenty of used PSP's and games.
