Sony product cycle?

I was just wondering what kind of product cycles Sony usually has on its cameras, in particular the higher end compacts like the RX100. The RX100 came out last July, so would it be a mistake to get one now if an RX101 or whatever could be out soon?

I was going to post this same exact message today. I'm sitting on a pile of Sony Rewards points and can get the RX100 for about $200 out of pocket. By most accounts it's an incredible camera and the perfect compliment to my backpack full of DSLR gear.

I just really *think* I want wifi ability to be able to shoot images over to phone after capturing them. And the wifi enabled SD cards sound kind of clunky.

I'd be having serious buyers remorse buying now, and then in 3 months seeing the next version come out with wifi enabled. Bleh. I'm just not familiar enough with Sony's product cycle to know the risk there.

What’s coming after the NEX-7n and A78? It looks like all the more advanced and Full Frame stuff is coming form early 2014 towards. There may be a new RX10 and RX200 the second half of this year but I got no reliable info about that yet.

The RX100 is amazing! I have always been a canon fan but I bought the RX100 to replace my previous point and shoot and it basically gets the same quality as my DSLR. Of course with special lenses and add ons the DSLR will obviously win. but out the box they are basically equal.

I would not wait. The resell on those cameras are still very high. Worse case you lose 100 bucks IF you have to have wifi which I find is cool in concept but not that big of a deal. I seriously doubt there will be a successor this year. There is not a camera that can come anywhere close to match its size and quality. I have a sony case that goes around it and am still able to put it in my pocket comfortably.

I've been thinking the same thing --- decided last week I wanted to get a secondary more pocketable camera for my travels and the RX100 looks amazing but I'd have buyer's remorse if an updated version came out.

Obviously the OP asked in April and its mid-June now ... My guess is that if there's no announcement by July, I'll jump on the RX100.
