Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200S

Hello All,

Not sure what happened. As far as I recall this drive was working fine. Maybe a year old now, if that. Unsure. I haven't tried to play a DVD from it in ages - just tried and no luck.

The device is recognized in Windows. The device itself can recognize CDs [Music, Data] but it will not recognize any game DVD or movie DVD disk once inserted.

Am I missing something? Standard driver. Sony's website only offers Firmware, not a driver. I have updated to the latest 1.0A firmware made specifically for the 7200S [Sata].

Everything is seated properly within the case [Shuttle xPC].

Am I missing something? Why would a computer all of a sudden stop recognizing DVDs? I know it was working somewhat recently as WoW: WotLK was on DVD release and it was fine. Now its not.

Any tips?

My hardware
[*]Shuttle SP353P2
[*]Intel Q6600
[*]Asus 9600 GT
[*]2x2GB DDR2 800 G.Skill

Looks like it's a hardware problem. The player has separate lasers for cd's and dvd's and my guess is that the laser for reading the dvd's has died.

thanks for the info had the same thing happen to my drive and was curious how i could burn cd's but not dvd's now I know

Try updating the firmware. I had a Sony Optiarc one that had problems but with a firmware upgrade it fixed it.

He did update to the latest version of the firmware, he's mentioned it in his first post. That didn't solve the problem for him.
