Sony MZ-R700DPC MiniDisc Recorder USB $199@Target (good for MP3 recording)

Sony MZ-R700DPC is a very portable MDLP MiniDisc recorder.
80-minutes in normal (legacy) mode, plays in any MD player.
160-minutes stereo in LP2 mode.
320-minutes stereo in LP4 mode.

160/320 minute LP modes require an MDLP compliant MD player for playback.

Digital USB link is included.
Recording of MP3 or CD's is realtime, but at least the media is fairly cheap at around $1.50 to $2.00 per disc. Discs are magneto optical and are rewriteable and tracks can be reordered, deleted, added at leisure, etc. Much cheaper than solid state at any rate.

$199 at Target. I have been told they decided to raise the price in the computer, but displays still read $199. It is not on Target's website.

You can see a picture of the MZ-R700 here

I believe that model (blue one) has been on clearance for awhile. Right now it is about $124.
The other model R37 is about $99.
I don't think minidisc is very popular around here because of their high price.

I don't think so, the MZ-R700 just came out, it's a 2001 model.
You might be thinking of the MZ-R70 which was not MDLP compatible.

kyutip, you might be thinking of the more featureless and more affordable MZ-R70. This model/package GnatGoSplat has posted is a great deal at $199.
