Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Lagging

It's essentially Sony Vegas except it doesn't support GPU acceleration and offers less audio and video tracks.

The problem I'm having is that - as the title mentions - its really laggy, specifically in my previews after adding FX.

Something as simple as adding a text zoom in with gaussian blur for a 10 second clip, I experience approx a 5-10fps preview, even when I dramatically lower the preview quality settings, set the application to high priority in my windows task manager, and end all unnecessary process trees like steam, exterior HD driver software, and all that other junk.

This is a problem because how am I to do any good editing when I can't see what it will look like on the fly? At this rate I will have to render the whole clip every time I add a single effect!

Anyone know why this program is so laggy?

-It's a legit version I purchased the hard copy at Best Buy (Imagination Studio Suite)
-AMD II 1065t @2.9GHz (six core)
-12GB DDR3
-1GB GDDR5 Radeon 6770
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

All Windows updates, graphics card drivers, sony software updates etc etc are updated, as I check quite regularly. I'm well above the recommended system requirements and WAY above the minimum system requirements

I can run Black Ops on maxed settings @>60fps with FRAPS running on the same HDD yet I can't preview a 10 second clip on this sony software at a reasonable framerate with a preview resolution of <240p!?
