while you can find price of this Premium Grade DVM-60 PR lower somewhere else like here,
the free shipping make it sweet as i want to have one to test out my new MiniDV cam. Others usually need volume buying to justify.

Anyone know how different brand of MiniDV tape difference in quality?

Sony and Panasonic make all the miniDV tape stock. The other brands buy this stuff and stick their name on it. The big questions are....

1) What is better, sony or Panasonic? Most people are happy with what they use, so it probably a moot point.

2) Can you mix brands? There is some discussion about mixing sony and Pan. tape. It has to do with the mythical wet vs dry lubes used on the tapes. Mixing them can supposedly create a goo that clogs the heads. Is this true? Some say yes, others no. I use Sony, don't need to change and don't want to just in case they are right about it being bad.

3) If mixing brands is bad what are you buying if you get TDK, Fuji, etc? They can switch between suppliers so what may be Sony stock can later be Panasonic. Brings us back to question 2...will we ever get a straight answer?

thanks for the info.
Also read somewhere that you should not reuse the tape for over 10 times.

Ive read its best not to switch back and forth brands since the tape lubrication is different and could affect the mechanism over time.

ok. I guess sony will do fine.
how about the 4pin to 6pin wire?
a bit OT, but...
here 6ft for $4. Its local in NJ and i can save the shipping. (The owner was nice to deal with, even can "discount the tax" if pay cash)
But its long drive to there because it open only M-F until 5pm, means fight the traffic after work.

in the pricewatch.com, some cable store may has a $20 limit to order, or others has price higher in their website, .... price are about $10-12.

anyone has suggestion for a lower price?
