Sony issues PlayStation 2 recall...

I read from a gaming website today that Sony has issued a recall for PS2 models 8722346186-9000354127 stating that "The power output used in these model PS2's was higher than regulation, and could be hazardous". Sony also stated that the new batch of PS2's they shipped a few days ago are most likely faulty units.

You'd be well advised to check your PS2's model number (I know I will), as well as possibly avoid the new shipment of PS2's.

Jeez, another PR snafu for Sony (assuming this is true). I imagine the whole console, with its water cooling, is rather intolerant of power supply issues.

That story is probably wrong, since my PS2's model number is
"SCPH-30001" and I imagine that 99% of all PS2 owners in North
America have that same model number (note: the PS1 has been
around for five or so years and has only seen 4-5 different
model numbers). Secondly there are no 10-digit long numbers
on my PS2 or it's box. Thirdly, the long numbers (barcode,
serial number, etc...) all start with either a 1 or a 2.

Valhalla:

Well, perhaps they are not water-cooled (as water would probably not be a good medium for a sealed device like this), but they are hydraulically-cooled with some kind of fluid. I assume this is done to avoid the necessity for noisy fans, and to permit the unit to be relatively physically compact.

Soul: check for the serial number (which I believe he was implying)

If anyone wants me to take a look at thier PS2 and run some tests they can just send the until w/ accessories and a few games over and I'll get back to them later

Can you post an official Sony link??? I haven't heard anything about it, so I doubt its true if there's no link.

OK! Where do I send it? Should I send my 27in Panablack TV, Technics Dolby Digital/DTS Reciever, 5 speaker/sub system, games, and my Dreamcast too?

How about my PC?

I know - I'll just leave them on my porch for Sony to come pickup - OK?

With Sony rushing to produce PS2s to try to satisfy demand, people have predicted that there might be problems. I don't know if this story is true, but it is likely.
