Agreed. Go to a Beastbuy yourself and bring either a CD or DVD that challenges the full range of the speakers set and judge for yourself.

Always keep in mind Sony's prices when ordering this stuff. $400 is bound to be grossly overpriced, and now that it is $199 it's much more reasonable, but hardly a hot deal (BB is offering it to everyone, readily available, no PM/Rebate/price mistake involved). And in general, Sony's audio equipment isn't overly hot (haven't really seen many high end sets using their receivers/speakers). You'd be better off with the Onkyo speaker setup (have it and love it) or the Fluance mentioned above.

Sony actually does make quality audio stuff, but you won't find it at BB. Their top-end stuff (prices: $2000-$9000 a piece) are actually pretty good. As for their regular stuff, I would only buy Sony speakers if I was so broke that I need to save up for toilet paper.

can those speaker stands at walmart support klipsch promedia 4.1 speakers? if they do i will be all over it since it's only $29.84, most i've seen for the promedia's r a lot more expensive, $60-$90. they look very similar to the omnimount rb-1 that klipsch recommends.

It seems that this deal is dead now? Too bad.. I need a new set of speakers. While the fluances might be nice, I live in a studio apartment and don't have room for speakers that big. I need some small speakers (ideally, something near the size of bose speakers, but not nearly that expensive). I don't care if they are not top notch speakers as I would be running them through a sony STR845 that is several years old (obvisouly not a top notch reciever) and would use them for TV mainly.

How are the fluances compared to Mirage Frx-5 's?

Mirage's are awesome, and I love my pair, but I realize they are Mirage's low-end, and would appreciate a comparison.

Thanks

Looks like these aren't available on CC's site.

And then the shipping for the Fluance speakers is $60 for UPS ground... not terrible, considering it's ~75lbs, but that's quite a chunk of change.

Are Fluance speakers only sold at their site, or are they sold in other retailers? They appear to be very nice, and I wouldn't mind getting a pair for my room in the future (along with a nice tuner). I wonder if my roomate would let me bring them in the dorm room? I have 400watt logitech z560's attached to the computer now... lol... but i need some extra wattage!

You can get them on eBay with $50 shipping, too.

Do you need a separate receiver for the Fluance speakers, or is there something on the back of the center channel that acts as the control panel?

Just like any speakers, you need a receiver. Well, really an amplifier, but that's part of a receiver.
