The best way to go about it is go to Asia and buy pirated games for 1.50. I am fine with paying 50 bucks for a game but any higher and it`s too much. I doubt it matters much anyway (what most people think), because the price of developing games will only go up as they get more and more complex. And we`ll have to pay in the end.

(I realise buying pirated games only makes things worse, but everyone wants to save money, and I bet anyone would buy games so cheap if they were readily available)

looking at ur sig.. ur really poor...

Or maybe he has more sense then money? Ppl giving $400+ for single computer components(namely video cards) just to have the value cut in half or less a few months later has more money then sense.

Why not? If you are going to pay $800 for a PS3 you might as well dish out $80 for a game.

If they games are going to be 80 why would you dish out 800 for a PS3 in the first place? 😕 unless you have a lot of money or you're an uber fan boy, I can't see many people, especially casual console gamers justifying 800 for a PS3 and then an additional 80 for each game and that's where it's going to hurt them and that's why it's a bad idea.

You are missing the point, which is that once you are getting ripped off royally by sony because you are stupid enough to pay $800 for a PS3, you might as well just keep it going and pay more and more for it until your friends have an intervention and you are completely broke. That way you can claim you have a psychological disorder instead of merely being stupid for paying $800 for a console.

At least there is the possiblity of buying used games from Amazon, etc. ; unless Sony follows through with the rumors about that.

Sounds like it might be wise to consider a buying opportunity for Sony stock. 🙂

I love how everyone uses gouge pricing as an excuse for piracy. Let's get real - only hardcore thieves are going to go thru the hassle of cracking their PS3. Most people will simply start renting games thru Game Crazy, Gamefly, etc. or waiting for prices to drop. Short games that last less than 10 hours will sit gathering dust at prices north of $60.

If Sony is arrogant enough to think they should charge $80 for games because their poo is odor-free, then more power to them. They'll get theirs in the end.

Console games cost more because companies have to pay Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft a licensing fee to be on their box.
On average, it's about $7 per game. So, you're $39 PC game has to cost about $45-$50 on a console.

This is how the console makers "make up" the money when they sell their consoles at a loss; Grand Theft Auto has made Sony a ****** load of money... take $7/copy license * 6 million units sold and bingo.

This makes the Xbox 360 look even better. Since the Xbox 360 might come down it price by the time the PS3 launches, it might attract more buyers. And if the price of games is also less on the Xbox 360 thats even better.

Well, I wish I had a 360.

What's the big deal? Sony has overcharged for everything since day 1...just get M$ products.

Have you suffered blunt trauma to your irony center? 😛

Both corporations are very heavily marketing oriented, as opposed to product oriented, so the consumer is being overcharged. It could be argued that advtantage can be taken of MS's effective subsidy of some products but since it's just part of their nefarious grand scheme it's difficult to praise them for it.

Sony hints at higher prices... Johnny Console hints at raising middle finger (and closing wallet).

Where do the $800 PS3 comments come from? The price for the high end model is $600, $500 for the one closer to the 360 Premium. Besides that, I have already shelled out $70 for a 360 game, them mentioning the possibility that games might cost more then $59 seems self evident considering that it is already happening.

OKAY , if people buy a PS3 to watch blu-ray they will buy the 60GB model one because its the only model to have an HDMI port. Now Sony exes say $599USD but what about the rest of the world

UK $802USD
AUSTRALIA , EUROPE $754USD
USA/CANADA $599USD
JAPAN OPEN PRICE $1000 ++ AT LAUNCH

Now sony is making sure that PS3 has HDMI 1.3 port but at what expense

No more 3.2GHz Cell processor .. its now 2.8Ghz
GPU clock speed has been reduced
GPU ram clock speed has been reduced
GPU pipeline has been reduced
External 400PSU (even bigger than xbox 360 power brick)
core logic bridge is out but now intergated into RSX
No more Rumble because of court case

Also i am now very sure the 2.8Ghz will be final clock speed for cell in the ps3 as sony can't get the required die for 3.2Ghz . If sony wants to keep its 3.2Ghz promise then they will have to delay the ps3 launch by few months and i doubt they will do that

What about the online plan Sony screw up squad has very good plans to milk as much money as possible by :
-Selling Ships and add on for games like Warhack for $3.00ish each on PS3 online hub. these weapon and ship and extra stuff would have been in the game if sony didn't intent to sell them :!!
-Selling MUSIC from PS3 Supper star crap

Virus possible damn yes because Sony thought it would be supper awesome to make sure Blu-ray GUI would be codded in java but not xml because xml. now you put a blu-ray disk in the drive and it will run java code ... now guess what that leads too

Is Bluray even worth it... wait they are using Mepg2 not VLC or MPEG 4 because current dual layer BD media is limited to 25GB because of cost of production. While HD-DVD is already using Dual Layer disk 30GB and its using a much better codec VLC. Does Blu-ray Movies beat HD-DVD in Image quality ... not according to most review i read.

Ahh i could go on how Sony is planning to screwing the consumer over with PS3!!!

OKAY , if people buy a PS3 to watch blu-ray they will buy the 60GB model one because its the only model to have an HDMI port.

So people will throw away their 360s altogether when they realize that the HD-DVD drive they just bought can't possibly work due to the complete lack of HDMI? Oh wait- that isn't going to happen at the earliest until next decade some time. Maybe people won't care all that much. Reality is that the $499 version will play BluRay titles just fine. As far as questioning the pricing, use their respective currency instead of quoting it in US dollars. The PS3 isn't going to cost $800 USD period.

No more 3.2GHz Cell processor .. its now 2.8Ghz
GPU clock speed has been reduced
GPU ram clock speed has been reduced
GPU pipeline has been reduced

Those are all lies. Started by a MS loyalist- already directly refuted by Sony, devs and everyone else involved. Cell has been being built @3.2GHZ for over a year now- it isn't like they are trying to do some amazing task. The GPU clockspeed should have really tipped you off- it is clocked lower then a GPU nVidia has had in mass production for half a year now- and they still have time to ramp it. MS loyalists with wishful thinking created the rumor of reduced specs, that is all.

What about the online plan Sony screw up squad has very good plans to milk as much money as possible by :

Free gaming- you pay for MS's...... you have a point there. Sony is really screwing you over. I got lucky with my 360, MS only charges me for things like additional content, themes, and even user icons. Sony is simply following the leader on this one. Please keep in mind you are talking to a 360 owner who already has over a dozen games for the system.

Virus possible damn yes because Sony thought it would be supper awesome to make sure Blu-ray GUI would be codded in java but not xml because xml.

XML is immune to virii? Can I have some of what you have been smoking? It must be real strong stuff 😛

Is Bluray even worth it... wait they are using Mepg2 not VLC or MPEG 4 because current dual layer BD media is limited to 25GB because of cost of production.

BluRay supports all of the newer, inferior compression codecs along with MPEG2. It is up to the studio how they encode it. MPEG2 takes up more space then the codecs used by the more limited HD-DVD.

Ahh i could go on how Sony is planning to screwing the consumer over with PS3!!!

And I can tell you all about how MS screwed me over with the 360 too. They are a company- they offer you a product and you decide if you want to buy it or not. I knew I was getting screwed when MS charged me ~$600 USD for a working 360(false Premium system shortage- although I had no problem buying every individual component to make one myself for an extra $100), I knew I was getting screwed when I had to spend $10 to get a tollerable dashboard for my 360, I knew I was getting screwed when I paid $70 MSRP for a game for my 360. You know what? I didn't really care all that much. I had the money, I wanted the stuff. They can make huge margins off of me as long as they give me enough to keep me happy. It appears that Sony is going to do the exact same thing.

HDMI port add on is coming for the Xbox 360 and yes PS3 is costing 800USD + in Countries like UK , JAPAN , Korea. Also you sound like you work for Sony by saying " respective currency instead of quoting it in US dollars" ... if Sony is telling everyone one in the freaking world that PS3 will cost $500 to $600 dollars then its a freaken lie since its only costing that in north America. Also you are talking to person who has seen all Blu-ray title at work "SAMSUNG" on a 71" DPL HDTV Widescreen 1080p. Watching Blu-ray Title was going to be a such an awesome experience but titles like terminator , i could notice when watching "one scratch ... ahh look another scratch ... another scratch..." movies encoding was done by an idiot.

Yes XML can have virus but it can be easily be prevented not like the way Sony went on with Blu-ray.

HD-DVD camp is already using Dual layer disk and i can't say same thing for our camp since blu-ray production cost for Dual layer Blu-ray disk is enromous. Current HD-DVD is
30GB and Blu-ray is 25GB. Reason why they didn't use VLC is because its microsoft format and sony hates using anything microsoft like XML so they would make it customer suffer with their arrogance.

And I can tell you all about how MS screwed me over with the 360 too. They are a company- they offer you a product and you decide if you want to buy it or not. I knew I was getting screwed when MS charged me ~$600 USD for a working 360(false Premium system shortage- although I had no problem buying every individual component to make one myself for an extra $100),
Well everyone smart console owner knows that when new consoles are launched they are hard to buy , overpriced , ebay crazy seller , never in stock for demand and if your thinking its going to be very easy to get a PS3 at launch your so very wrong

I knew I was getting screwed when I had to spend $10 to get a tollerable dashboard for my 360, I knew I was getting screwed when I paid $70 MSRP for a game for my 360.
I found the a freedash board feature on xbox live marketplace which i use and its much awesome than the orginal one.
XBOX 360 games cost $60 and limited edition cost $70 and PC new title cost $50 and limited edition cost $60 so i think its only a $10 increase in price and sony is wanting to charge more and i will say its not for greed but something they fear the most.

You know what? I didn't really care all that much. I had the money, I wanted the stuff. They can make huge margins off of me as long as they give me enough to keep me happy. It appears that Sony is going to do the exact same thing.
Yeah , people like you and me wouldn't care how much it cost but Microsoft , Nintendo and Sony main goals is to make it mainstream and majorty of the people aren't rich and not willing to spend $500+ on a console.

LOL,, Yea,, on the pirating issue, if it does come out to be more than 70 for a new game (taxes+shipping), THEN helloooo mod chip... The only games i REALLY REALLY like are in japanese anyhow. (i'm not japanese i just read it) So i'd probably dl those japanese versions which needs a modchip to be played anyway.

I was contemplating buying a cube for that naruto game I played at the mall, got my ass handed to me by this fat 40year old white ANIME luving nerd. (my future cept chinese)

When these consoles have all the computer associative connectivities (harddrives, ethernet, usb) they're completely hanging out in the open.

Xbox saw this problem first when people put in those 300gig HDs in the machines and just downloaded everything via BIttorrent. NOW the nextgen consoles are going to take an even greater plunge because their OS is more advance" and more easily adaptive.
