Sony Google TV/BR Box vs. Competition?

I guess I am not as much interested in the TV itself as the BR-player/setup box. At $400, how does it compare to the competition?

I am thinking about buying an LCD-TV/BR player for Christmas, so the Sony seems like a decent option to get the internet/multimedia capabilities as well.

And I am not too interested in the PS3 but I am aware it is $100 cheaper.

What are you looking for exactly? There's a lot of competitors to the GoogleTV. The PS3, Xbox 360, Roku box, AppleTV.

Well, I want a BR player AND a set-top box that can access the web, view other types of media online or within my home network.

Honestly Google TV right now is too expensive for what it does. Apple TV is cool and I get to play with it every day but there's a lot it doesn't do and sometimes frustrating to use and you want a blu-ray player as well. How does a PS3 sound? It's still one of the best Blu-ray players out there, can stream 1080p media, is the only one getting 1080p and 5.1 sound on Netflix for a while, gets the most updates for the newest standards, plus can play games if you ever want to. There's many stand-alone blu-ray players that can access the web and netflix and such but don't have as many features.

Does not include BluRay.

If you were to get the PS3 and couple that with PS3 Media Server or Connect360 you should be able to use it as a media extender.

Whoops, meant the PS3, I'm not into consoles :(

I do remember the PS3 is pretty slick and does HD Netflix and Dolby, just got them mixed up.

geez if you paid $400 for a refurb/used htpc (SFF) with blu-ray reader i'd say you got a fair deal - quad core, 6-8gb of ram, win7hp,1tb

so what exactly do you get from google tv? seems like a seriously overpriced nettop.
