Debating between saving up $$ for the Dell 2405 or getting this monitor refurb for $999. Anyone here have this monitor or seen it in action?
I have a CRT HDTV so I know CRT can perform as well or even better than Plasmas/LCD/DLP etc..... But not sure if this is true in the monitor arena.

Thanks!

Just an FYI, I'm selling a GDM FW900 on the forsale forum for much less than the $999 refurb price. I replaced it with a dell 2405. I like the LCD better which is why i upgraded, but the GDMFW900 is the best 24 inch CRT you can get.

I also want to know this question...

I am going CRT because these would be able to do 1080p for PS3, correct?

I can get a Mitsubishi 2060u really cheap local pickup, but debating between that one and the Diamondpro 2070 sb (99hz 1600x1200) or the sony fw-900

The Dell could do 1080p as well though.

I loved the 2405FPW, and I personally like LCDs more than CRTs though. It would be much easier to do input into the Dell as well since it has DVI, VGA, and component.

Apologize for not including a link.

http://www.sony-cp.com/en/products/crt/f_professional/fw900/

It can go higher than the stated optimal viewing. Something absurd like 2304x 1440 at 80Hz. Dot pitch of .23 mm

I believe it has Usb 1.0 connections and not 2.0 Not surprising since it came out in 2001 or so.

I have not seen one personally but have been doing quite a bit of online research. Apparently this one shows colors/images to die for. Perfect for gaming. When new this monitor was 2000+.
Since it is a CRT it is heavy! 95 lbs or so. Big Boy. 22.5 viewable size.

Perhaps Nippyjun can compare/contast the Dell 2405 and the Sony GDM-FW900 for us since he has first hand knowledge of both monitors.

Pretty please:D

I only had both side by side for a few days (and that was incredible having 2 24's next to eachother). I found that the 2405 is crisper than the FW900, but both are excellent. The actual viewing area is about 10% larger on the 2405. If they were the same price i would get the 2405 just to save the room on my desk. For those who prefer crt's, the FW900 is the best 24inch crt monitor you can get. I don't think the FW900 is currently made so you would have to get one used or refurbed. I wouldn't get a refurb unless it has a good warrantee.

nippyjun: If cost was an issue also though, would you buy the sony for $300 or the Dell for $900?

So even for gaming you would go with the Dell over say the sony or the 2070?

I would get the sony for $300. $300 is a bargain as long as it's in good shape.

For gaming both the 2405 and the FW900 are superb. You can't go wrong with either. It comes down to price, desk room, USB 1 vs 2 (if that matters), and the card reader on the dell (if that matters). Personally i don't use the hubs on the monitor or the card reader so that didn't matter. I got the 2405 for just under 1k and am happy with it. I do regret the purchase though as the change from the fw900 isn't worth it, but it's a done deal for me now. I have the FW900 just sitting in it's box.
