Sony G400 19" Monitor - Loud pop=no work

I recently got my g400 and when I first turned it on I heard a fairly loud pop, but it worked ok, used it for the rest of the day, a few hours, turned it off over night. I woke up today, turned it on, VERY loud pop, monitor is dead, just funky colors. Has this happened to anyone? I got it from staples so I can easily rma it at no cost, but it just sort of annoys me. I mean is this a commond defect, or something I could of done?
 
You did nothing wrong. There's obviously something wrong w/it. Don't mess with it anymore and unplug it from the surge protector. The sooner you return it, the less hassle they will give you. Good luck.
 
Ouch, bad luck!

My G400 has a "loud popping noise" I think when you first turn it in, this is the degaussing of the monitor.
 
Yeah I think thats normal, this was an extremely loud crack, scared the crap out of my really, I had just woken up, lol.
