Anyone here got one and happy/not happy with either of them?

I am swaying to the HTC as that 3.8 Inch screen is gorgeous.

Where/how will you buy the HTC Touch TD? How much does it cost?

Here in the UK I can get the phone for free for £35 a month (unlimited texts and 900 minutes calls)

The Sony is also free but you will have to pay £45 a month

cellular prices in the US are highway robbery. It seems in England you can get a high end smart phone for about $50/month (thats 35 pounds) for 900 minutes and unlimited text. While I don't know if that includes data or not, the lowest base plan I've seen is 450 minutes for $40, not including any texts!

Yeah serious, those phones are free to us, but at £35 & £45 a month (about $60 ish) but thats all my calls covered, unlimited net and text messages.

We have really aggressive sales men here, I have two months left on my current contract , they have offered to buy me out so I take a new phone out ( so they will give me £70 to pay my last two bills).

How long are your contracts? This just isn't making sense. We are being charged roughly the same monthy assuming you package in only texts and not data. But our phones are $300->Sky's the limit. Our general contract is two years. So your paying nothing for the phone, roughly the same monthly, what gives. Only thing I can think of is they contracts are longer to make up the difference. Its that or we are just getting screwed in the states.

HTC HD Deal

Sony X1 Deal

Usually 12 or 18 month contracts, but as you can see the phones are free on most deals, I have zero idea why it's more expensive over seas?

Clarkey: apparently them overseas people also have to pay for incoming SMSs and international calls. At least that's what one of my friends experienced when they were there.

Also, I've gotta say, 35 GBP for 12 months, and a free X1? Nice! I got a Nokia 9500 @ 50 with 1000 minutes any network and 100 texts any network on Orange about 5 years ago, when the phone was newish.

What are you going to be using it for? I'd say the main differences are:

* HTC Touch HD: good choice if you primarily need a multimedia device, as it has a bigger screen (which should be great for movies, pictures, games, etc) and an accelerometer (for games). It's also thinner and more stylish looking and the camera might be nicer.
* Sony Ericsson X1: good choice if you primarily need a productivity device (writing text messages, sending emails, editing documents, etc), as the hardware keyboard, IMO, is much nicer than a touch screen one. Also, the X1 has panels, which lets you pick different UI's for different tasks. Thanks to some folks on xda-developers, you can even install the TouchFlo 3D UI (from the HTC Touch devices) as a panel, which is pretty sweet.

Otherwise, the phones are damn similar. They are both made by HTC, both run Windows Mobile, both have high res screens, standard headphone jack, FM radio, Opera browser, plenty of RAM, expansion slots, and all the connectivity options (quad band, 3g, wifi, gps, bluetooth). I bought the X1 a while ago and will probably write up my full review in the next week or two (in the meantime, you can read my impressions as I used the X1 the first week or two). So far, I've been pretty happy with it, but it does have it's issues - most of them, however, are the fact that Windows Mobile is an outdated and not user friendly OS, which means the HD may have the same problems.

Well, for camera quality, Sony X1 has a built in flash. I would love to find a mobile phone w/ these specs:

Built in GPS
Accelerometer
Standard headphone output
Touchscreen windows mobile
camera with flash
screen res at least 640x whatever

I can't find any models that meet all of these.

Just a quick question:

Will WinMo 7 be able to run on the HTC Touch HD?

I'm really liking the HTC but I'm used too three input options (keypad [number dialing], keyboard [SMSing], and touch screen [for navigation, mostly]) with my P990i, so I'm not sure about the touch screen only aspect of the screen, but I guess that's something I'd have to get over personally.
