Sony Erricson phone question..

A friend of mine got a phone from the UK 4 months ago and now he has shifted to India.
His phone (P910i) is network locked.

My question:
If I upgrade the firmware using the sony support site, will the network restriction go away? Or is contacting the original service provider the only option?
 
no upgrading it won't help.
He has to contact whichever provider that has it locked and get the subsidy code.

It's gonna be a pain in the ass to get that's for sure.
Either that, or have a third party do it for you.

Not too sure if you can get teh P910 unlocked from a third party, but google it.
