Planning on replacing me and my girlfriends old Nokia E71 (she has the white one and I have the silver) and getting us something different or even better than the Iphone because I know tooooo many people where I live that have Iphones galore.

I looked up this phone and some Youtube Vids on it and I can honestly say this could be much better than the Iphone in terms of function and feature, but it all narrows down to those here on AT that have seen or have tried out this new phone from Sony Ericsson

What do you all think of this phone??

Its a blah... phone.
Decent specs but still uses Android 1.6 and no multitouch.
There are much better phones in the same class.
Are you in the US ?? What carrier are you with ??

actually I'm stationed here in Guam (U.S territory in the Pacific) for the next 3 years (U.S. Navy) and here in Guam the Iphone is the big thing and I mean I see so many people around that have Iphones because there is a cel company here that offers the phone for $199 with a contract, so like the cel consumers end up getting this phone because its an "I"etc product, which I'm tired of seeing.

So based on what you said its still very basic and not worth the price?? They sell it here or in other words I can get it for like $689, is that abit too much??

$689 is entirely way too much.
I did a little googling and I believe Guam cell providers use 3G bands like ATT which is 850/1900mhz.
If I were you I'd find myself a nexus one with att bands and use it there.
It'll be the first phone upgradeable to Android 2.2 while the X10 is still 1.6.
The X10 is a nice looking phone with a 4" screen but you'll be much happier with a Nexus one.
You can find Nexus One with ATT bands for <$600 on ebay.

I'm a huge SE fan (use an X1a in Afghanistan currently) but the X10 has been a disappointment. Still on Android 1.6, and with an expected update around October to 2.1, not 2.2.

I'll be picking up SE's first WP7 phone.

I bought the X10 last week, and switched from the Nexus One. The no multitouch sucks, but Sony's latest update makes the phone much, much faster, and I get better battery life on my X10 than I did on my Nexus.

That said, while the software looks very nice, TimeScape is useless. MediaScape is nice, but doesn't have enough features to make it great (needs a WIDGET). The phone finally got rooted two days ago, so hopefully we will start seeing custom ROMS once the bootloader is unlocked, and then I'll be as happy as can be.

good to hear of that. Actually I'm kinda new to the whole "PC like" features for cel phones nowadays, till now (about 2 years) I havent made use of all my phone's features and yet I can already see it outdated. Seeing how the X10 basically works, it seems nice especially the contacts section, but what's with the multitouch and timescape feature??

thanks in advance
