I'd rather make $190 than get a free headset :p

Good lord. Why do people, who are getting t-mobile anyway, decide NOT to buy through amazon? Sheer ignorance is the only answer I can come up with...

amazon has 30 day price guarantee. Call em up for a $20 refund if you purchase that last month.

for some phones, amazon is actually more expensive, in addition theres the risk of the gross amount for mail in rebate. for example, the Samsung E715 is $50 on amazon after $$ in mir (last time i checked). small cell phone shops have the same phone for free, $50 out the door plus $50 mir.

Super super hot..thanks a lot for the post...I was just looking today to replace my phone and this solved the dilemma!!!

EDIT: Question for you guys that have gone in on this deal previously - did it actually take 1-2 weeks for it to ship out? I was hoping to receive this before the 15th...but the ship out estimate is 1/21.

Well I guess you could go with the family plan and score 5 phones for a very good price on the plan.

Quoted from a FW post

Order 5 phones and sign them all up for the FamilyTime Basic Plan at $79.99 per month ($49.99 for 2 phones + $30 for the 3 additional lines). Works out to $960 + $175 activation = $1,135 per year. Net rebates = $950, so total cost for one year is only $185.00 or $15.42 per month for 5 new phones and 400 shared anytime minutes per month.

Seems doable as I have called both Amazon and T-mobile on this.

i'm with Cingular and have a Nokia 8290. my contract is already over so basically i'm going month to month.

can i get in on this deal and just send the rebates out, but instead of using the T610 can i just use my 8290 with a new T-mobile plan?

i plan to sell the T610 and along w/ the rebates get the new T630 which should be coming out soon. but in the mean time can i just use my 8290 with the new T-mobile plan?

As long as ur phone is GSM based, as most of the new Cingular phones are, then you simply pop in a new SIM card coded for T-Mobile's network and your ready to go. That is the beauty of most GSM phones, they don't come locked for 1 carrier.

there's actually a good chance that the 8290 is locked to cingular...but all you would need to do is get the unlock code from either cingular or an unlocking service.

Now point out a small shop that will pay you $190 to take the phone off their hands. That's what I'm talking about!! :D

I don't believe that their is much risk involved in this, as Amazon has been doing this with phones for a while now and I have yet to see someone have a problem. Heck, my own brother did it with the Samsung S105 and had no problems at all.

IMO, anyone who gets a T-mobile phone not through Amazon is sorely missing out. Unless you absolutely need to have a working phone, ASAP.

last time I got it at CompUsa for $200 - $100 MIR = $100, with a free 27" TV and a free Bluetooth Headset. That wasn't too bad. But this deal is awesome for those who are switching to Tmobile

vtqanh: If you can get that kind of deal, then I for one excuse you for not buying it through Amazon. ;) hehe

Phone wholesale cost is around $190 (That is what amazon probably buys it for). The Factory phone wholesales for $270 or so in the US. You make $190.
That is a total of $380.

1 year of service is $480.

Assuming that Amazon makes nothing on this, the phone company is making about $100 off of you for the year. /12 = $8.50 per month. If amazon makes any more, then the phone company is making even less.

This just goes to show that almost all of your first year payments go to commissions and promotions. I do not think they can profit at $8.50 per month. The phone companies lose money on you for the first year.

If they do make money, then it would be nice if I could sign up with a 1000 minute plan for $8.50 a month not having to worry about rebates or receiving a phone....

How do the special offers work? What can I do with "$190 in your pocket"? Is it a bunch of worthless coupons?

DPK just go view the Amazon site, there are two rebates:

1) $100 from T-Mobile
2) $170 from Amazon

Pretty simple for us AT'ers...we do MIRs all the time. :)

Does anyone know if I can transfer my regular verizon home phone # over to a T-Mobile Cell Phone, or does that one work from cell to cell?
