Though it doesnt have the wifi capabilites like the kindle, it does read pdfs.

do you think its worth the current market price?

Honestly, if I was interested in something to read Ebooks/PDFs/etc, I would either go for under $100 or go for a minilaptop like the eeepc... for almost $300 Id say an ebook reader is way overpriced when you can get a fully functional minilaptop for not much more. This is going on the summation the eeepc is $300, I could be wrong on that.

Depends on how many eBooks you read I guess. I bet in 5 years these things will be like $10, so I'm definitely holding off.

I have one and reading pdfs on it sucks. I got mine for 50 bux by signing up for a credit card. It's good with it's own sony format but sucks at reading pdfs. It's kinda cool for reading electronic books you download but it's definately not worth 250 bux. It's not natural to hold it and theres is ghosting effect from switching pages that is a little annoying.

Kindle is also overrated. I predict within a few years time, the e-ink capabilities will be much better and these ereader will be much more economical. Unless you read a substantial amount of ebooks, I would hold off on this product.

Have one, love it.

To those comparing it to low-priced laptops, the screen itself is worth the price. It's so far superior to an LCD for reading text that it's not even a comparison. Battery life is far superior to a laptop as well. Mine's been on for the last 4 days and still has 75% battery life remaining. If you travel a lot and want to have a library with you, it's a great option.

For the extra $120 you get the wireless (Amazon uses a big chunk of the money to pay for a couple of years of the wireless plan) -and- access to the Kindle store.

Both can read DRM free ebooks from Baen.com, Project Gutenberg, etc.

But for most books, publishers only sell with DRM. Amazon has over 120,000 titles, with 25,000 added since launch. Sony's store has ???

a very expensive solution looking for a problem that generally doesn't exist..
if i have a book to read, carrying it generally isn't an issue. book for long trips? need maybe 1 or 2. or now days? audiobooks. plus i'm pretty sure i'd enjoy reading paper more, and probably be able to skim through faster. books take hours to read. you don't need a book jukebox, so theres no need for a book ipod😛

It's for a certain type of person. But I would tend to agree with you.

I think i would get great use out of one right now. I like to read a couple of books at once, depending on my mood. That mood often changes when im away from home, and since I cant bring 4+ books with me, i figured this would be a good solution.

The thing im most worried about is the pdf readability. I do alot of financial reading that companies release in pdf format. If it cant make a pdf readable , it really wont be worth it for me. Some reviews say its great for pdf and others say its terrible.
