I guess if you take care of your stuff, it will last...

don't care what anyone else says, all of these cameras have taken awesome pictures...

I have to say the R1 is nice, but it's a bit too expensive to pick over an SLR. I guess if you don't want to get too much into photog then the R1 is okay.

I got my for $750 shipped and there is a $100 rebate from sony, so $650 total is pretty sweet considering the regular price of this camera at Frys is $999 plus tax.

I suppose, but for that price you can get yourself a 350D. Sure, the lenses themselves are more expensive, but the 350D takes better quality pictures. I guess if you're not going to be printing 7'x10' posters it won't matter all that much.

I used to have a Sony DSC-P9 (before i got my Nikon D70), and i have to say, i really did enjoy that camera....

All the pics on the main pages there were taken with my P9.

Got a DSC-T9 in April and the screen cracked, didn't drop it or anything would keep it in my pocket by itself when transporting it, I've had my other Sony camera for like 4 or 5 years now and have never had an issue and now I finally upgrade to their latest and greatest point and shoot and this shyte happens and they won't cover a new LCD.

Fvcking pisses me off, don't think I'll be buying another Sony camera any time soon.

I saw a thread somewhere that said you may be entitled to screen replacement regardless of manufacturer policy.

I had the S70 back in the day and I loved it! Amazingly, beautiful pictures. I kept it until 2005 and sold it to buy a Canon G5 (too cheap to get an SLR + LENSES AND LENSES, besides, a skilled person with a pro-sumer camera beats a noob with an SLR on Auto anyday). I have to say that I love certain sony cameras, the rest kind of suck.

I read from dpreview that you would have to spend ~ $1k in glass to equal the range and speed of the R1's or the F828. Doesn't seem so bad imo. But of course if you want a 'full' camera with interchangeable lenses a dSLR is the way to go.
