"Sony developing 200GB Blu-ray disc"

"Sony will announce next month that it has developed an 8-layer version of the Blu-ray disc that is capable of storing 200GB of data, according to a company spokesman."

I'm pretty excited about this, and hopely Sony can deliver it quickly. The 4-layer 100GB discs should be available in 2007.

Knowing Sony it will cost approximately $5,000 and there will be countless bugs in the "finished product" preventing it from even working. Complaints to their CS department will be answered with a laugh and a flipping of the proverbial bird. I'd get more excited watching paint dry.

eh the bigger the better🙂 if hdtv vcr is gonna be viable this has to happen. not like current stand alone dvd recorders

Yeah, you're right. Sony's first try at making consoles barely worked. I guess that is why the Playstation was so crappy and barely sold. 😉

Sony = Sucks.
I got a Sony nobile phone, with mp3 player functionality, and you can use mp3's as ringtones.
It includes sample mp3's, such as one witha woman singing "Ring Ring Ring". Except because it's not an "authorised" mp3, or whatever BS< I can't use it as a ringtone.
They put the damned thing on the phone, and it's just a woman saying "Ring Ring Ring" over and over, and I can't use it as a ring tone. Go figure.

They'll probably put some BS on these discs too that means they blow up anything when not used exactly as Sony wants them to be used.
Sony never ceases to amaze me.

There's an exception to every rule 😉 Even in the improbable situation you found a good Sony product, by buying it you're supporting a company whose ethics make the mafia look like a nonprofit organization.

Although I can give MANY more examples of great Sony products, I do agree with the last part of your statement. 😉

agreed......our sony dvd player that cost a nice bit of my fathers £££ needs to use laser lens cleaner before playing any dvd.....if its got a hair line scratch forget it, if its from the video shop forget it, if its got a spec of dust jus throw that dvd away man coz its not gonna play.

this dvd player only works with PERFECT discs. POS

the sanyo dvd player in the back room has no trouble at all playing copied dvd's, or VCD's infact if u put it in it will play it......bet it would even have some kind of output for the UT2004 dvd

Just not Sony. They will design their own docking mechanism and insist that everyone else use it. 😉

This is nice, wish I had it now. Just wish Sony would let go. HD-DVD makes so much more sense as it can work with an easy retool of the current DVD lines. But man, would I love 100GB. I would only have to span on disc for a backup of some projects 😀
