Sony defends white PSP ad

i can see how it would be thought of as racist. i think the ad is fine. it is supposed to represent the contrast and the sleekness/sex appeal of the new white psp.

My question is how people make it an issue of race and completely ignore the context of the ad. Sony is releasing a white PSP. How f'ing hard is that to understand? I mean, surely you can't be f'ing stupid enough to think that Sony hate black people and that white power is being pushed through this ad, as if the new white PSP is going to be shipped wrapped in a nazi flag and contain a list of all the Klans in your area so you can join up.

FFS get over it. The only racist ones are the ones who can't seperate an ad announcing a white PSP from hate messages.

Its not hard to understand, its just racist symbolism. It may be used in an area where that form of racism is more acceptable, but the point of the add is that they are releasing a new improved white psp which is better than black and they used a white and black person to prove the point. That is racist, folks.
 
I can see how it can be racist, could have thought of a better advertisement.
What i get out of it is that a white PSP is better than a black PSP - arent they the same thing?

yeah... the two women ad is kinda retarded because there is no psp in there whatsoever... definitely see how people can misconstrue it.. but damn, its way too easy to get people's panties in a wad these day (just using it as a general expression!)

i can see why some people would take this as racist but i do not agree at all! sony should leave this one up, the only ppl that will find offense to this are those that are already uncomfortable with the whoel race thing and that is why they see this as negative when it is not

It's not that hard to understand. If you are going to introduce a new white PSP that "trumps" the old, black one, a better ad would be a white PSP stomping or crushing a black PSP (white PSP sitting on top of the black one with a cracked screen, etc).

When you start adding people to the context, at least have the product in place to give some kind of perspective, otherwise it sort of loses its message. It reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld where he meets a supermodel on an airplane.

But then again, that just touches on how it's a pretty pathetic ad. As far as racism goes. As I said before, I'm pretty much anti-PC and anti-cries of racism around here. Most know that I will quickly pull out my Al Sharpton/Jessie Jackson "race card" pic when I think that people are making race an issue when they really shouldn't be, but this is so blatant that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize why people would be upset:

You have a busted-looking black woman next to an angelic looking model-esque white woman. If the only thing that's different between the two PSP models is the color, then it why the need to have two vastly different models portrayed in the ad?

It's just a matter of poor taste. Just like the Adidas "Yellow" shoes.

I don't think the ad is intentionally racist, but its poor taste.

They would have been better off having a white knight battle against a black knight - or some other costume-centric color scheme. This ad is just stupid as is.
