Can you guys explain this commercial to me. It's the one for the new Sony Cybershot M1.

There is this couple showing off their new house to the woman's mother. It's a dump, a raccoon runs by, etc. They get the mom to the final room, which is a nursery that is all made up and beautiful. The mom is surprised, happy, etc. Normal emotional reactions to finding out that your daughter is going to have a baby.

Then, the kicker. The mom asks, "So, who's the father?"

WTF?

Am I missing something here? Call me crazy, but I would assume that it's the guy running around taking pictures with a $500 camera that just bought a friggin house with your daughter. Even if the couple isn't married, buying a house together pretty much means commitment. Why does the mom ask that? Who's the father? Does the mom think that her daughter is that much of a slut that she has to ask?

Did I just miss the joke or something?

Yeah, I thought about that, but it didn't seem like sarcasm. I have the commercial Tivo'ed and after watching it again, I'm still stumped. If someone is being sarcastic, there is a usual tone to their voice. Also, if she was being sarcastic, it would be as a joke, but the mom wasn't smiling or laughing.

In fact, she still has that shocked and surprised look on her face, not an "I just made a witty/sarcastic remark" look. Sarcasm is usually easy to pick up on going by tone and facial expressions. She didn't sound sarcastic. Even if she was, shouldn't it be blatantly obvious to the viewer? If it's too subtle, then the mom is basically calling her daughter a floozy.

Yes, I am analyzing a stupid commercial too much, but it is a weird commercial.

They're actors. Cheap, cut-rate actors. Sarcasm is not in their skillset.

They are trying to do one of those "capture the moment with this digital camera" type commercial?

Yes. Except the moment is the mom being surprised that her daughter is pregnant and then asking "who da daddy?"

i would like to see this as well

I wish I could capture it. It is strange.

Thinking about it, even if it was sarcasm (albeit, poorly done), why make a joke like that? If it is sarcastic, it's still not funny. Why do it?

This is not a local commercial for a used car dealership in bumwad, AL. This is Sony doing a commercial with one of the Baldwin douches doing the voice-over.

If someone can get a hold of it, please share.
