I found that Buydig.com has this camera(Sony DCS-S70) for $635.00 + shipping(retail 799.95). resellerrating isnt that great but just beware of the sales rep calling you trying to sell add-on's. Does it make this a Hot Deal? I'm looking for a digital camera and was wondering if this is a good camera?

This is an OK deal. Not hot.
Look at the review of this camera at www.dpreview.com yourself.
To me, I think it is a good camera (excelent lens) but
still behind coolpix 990.

Does Staples carry the S70? Maybe you could pricematch $635 with Staples and then apply a coupon..

I tried going to Staples to check, but their Digital Camera section doesn't seem to want to work.

i know buydig.com sounds kinda shady, but i've ordered with them, and they've delivered. you can actually call them up and bargains with them on accessories if you're so inclined. i got a lens cleaner and a transparent lens cap, and some other things for like a buck extra =)

i also convinced them to bump me up to next day shipping no charge.

RichieW,

you da MAN!!!! how did you get them bump you up to next day air without charging you? let us know your good experience with buydig.com. I'm seriously thinking about this camera. This sony has some good reviews. right now i cant decide which one to get F505V or DCS-S70 (either one) :) I have seen photos taken from the coolpix 990 but was not my taste. Sony's pictures are much more "colorful" or more towards my taste in photos. Its all comes down to personal perferneces i guess. I know the SOny's Colors aren't the true color of the picture but damn it looks NICE. I aint no PRO. :) just my 2 cents. Thanks for all the good replies. more comments are welcome!!!

I tried the Nikon 990 reference above - real bad red-eye problem, and it's much more expensive (lowest Street Price is close to $800! - www.pricegrabber.com) than the S70. In my opinion the S70 is a far superior camera for a lower price

SCSI> I was just going through Egay to see what they have and saw lots of deals(Scams?) on this camera.

I looked there before I purchased my S70 and decided against it after reading a lot of posts on the DC forums. The #1 reason for not buying a "new" camera off any auction page is the potential of it being a "grey market" camera and not having a valid warranty for service in the USA. A LOT of people who travel - say to the Pacific Rim - will buy various cameras, watches, PDA's, electoric gear and bring them back to sell on an auction. Problem is these items purchased out of the confines of the USA will not be worked on by the service center for that product here in the USA. So to get service it has to be returned to where ever in Asia it was purchased - good luck on that.

You are way ahead of the game buying from a dealer ( and make sure it's a USA camera if you deal with some of these fly by night camera dealers on the internet and in the back of photo magazines ) who can guarantee its made for sale in the USA and service can be provided in this country.

I am not making this up - when I was with the airlines in the 1970's I was buying brand new Seiko wathes that sold for $70+ in the USA for $22 to $25 in Japan! The watches were all Christmas gifts and my first trip over I bought 10 or 15 of them. A few years later one of the watches died and I took it to a watch repairer to fix - he needed to order parts and it would be a week before they would arrive. He later called and advised that this particular watch was not made for distribution in the USA and parts were no available in the USA to fix the watch - the only place parts were available were in Japan.

I believe I read on another deals board about a guy that bought a Palm PDA at a good price off that particular boards Buy/Sell/Trade section. Pda arrived and when he fired it up the screen came up in German.... guess where that one came from.

Price is not the only thing to consider in a "DEAL" !!!

Hope this helps
