Should cut the price to $129. But the PS3 won't launch in Japan for 1.5-2 years, and the PSP is being released this Winter, and they probably can't expect to sell a $130 console (with better graphics) against a $150-200 handheld. PEACE.

I don't know if this an error, but at EBGames.com they have both the regular PS2 console as well as the Online Pack with ATV Offroad Fury 2 for $149.99. There doesn't seem to be any reason to buy the PS2 Console for itself because you get the Network Adapter and game for free (maybe you pay more in shipping because its heavier?).

I paid $300 back when the PS2 was first released, and I got the extended warranty for 2 years, that was an extra $50

Hotness!

While supplies last, that $149 will also get you the PlayStation 2 Combo Pack, which includes the PlayStation 2 Console, the Network Adapter, and a copy of ATV Offroad Fury 2 for some immediate online gaming action.

you know, if this was a computer, paying the exact same ammount for the two systems would seem unbelievable. one has 300mhz processor while its competition sits on 733mhz. video card runs at 150mhz while competition runs 250mhz. if you really think about it, the ps2 should be 75$ in order to be hot deal. half the performance, half the cost.

yes but to equate the two, you have to also take into account the games and existing customer base. numbers on paper are not a fair comparison as demonstrated by the N64 and Dreamcast among other failed systems.

This isn't really a hot deal. Yes it's cheaper now, but this will be the normal price now for the PS2 going forward. Therefore, it's not really a deal since anyone can get the PS2 for this price. It's common knowledge. This thread should probably be locked.

but the N64 had Goldeneye, and in the end, that made it a success in my book.

$199?

Actually I think it's $299.

I remember seeing them in Germany in 2000 for something riciculous like DM 800 or 900 (about USD 450) towards the beginning when there was somewhat of a shortage.

Circuit City has the deal with the network adapter and the game for $149. I figured that Sony was going to cave in under the pressure of the Xbox price drop.

Heh ... if you are talking about REALLY high prices, anyone remember the week after PS2 was first released ? These puppies were going for $700-800 on eBay and people were lining up at WalMart at midnight to somehow grab one or two of these.

I paid $300 for mine the same Christmas :(

I disagree since not everyone has seen the news yet, and some stores like Buy.com are still showing the old price. This thread might save somebody $30.

Also a hot deal inside the thread, EBGames with online pack for $149

Thats like arguing that the Athlon64 should be cheaper because its over a gigahertz slower than top of the line P4C

and atleast in THAT arguement we are dealing with same types of processors....

That is totally different, the hardware in the xbox eats the PS2 alive. Doesn't really matter anymore anyways, both consoles are ancient in terms of computer power (cept maybe the XBox GPU being decent at best), that and its the software that defines the systems' worth, not the hardware.
