The Overland Park, KS store said that they had one in stock, but they couldn't find it anywhere. The manager looked around for about 10 minutes and then said that it must have grown legs. He was nice enough to check the other stores in the area though. He found two drives in stock in Lenexa and put one on hold for me. When I got there, I tried to buy them both but the lady said that one was on hold for someone else.

If you can find two of them, you can make it even sweeter for you and a friend. As I posted, I scored the last two in the San Fernando Valley. I bought both on the same receipt and used a $10 off $50 coupon. The rebate form states that copies of the receipt are OK, and I verified it with a live service rep at the Sony Rebate Center as long as the rebate forms are sent separately, and the rebates go to two different peole.

This is a Lite-On drive, and it will work much better if you flash the BIOS to genuine Lite-On. It's safe. I've done this successfully many times, including these two. It will also then work with the bundled OEM version of Nero for Lite-On drives. Get the flashing info from CDFreaks forum.

If you want to do this one, MOVE FAST... like NOW, for example.

As they say in HD, YMMV, so call first to check for stock and price. I don't know if it's good in all store districts. Both the drive and the call are cheap. 😀
 
Stay on the lookout. I just snagged one of these puppies. Rebate printed out at the register. Luckily there was no sticker for this model... it was sitting with the CRX225s.
 
just got one @ Norwalk, CA store. Still one remaining, it's behind the glass together with the CRX225 drives

hmm, never thought about that. my old 195 is flashed to vsob, yet it still registers as a sony in nero info tool (albeit w/the new firmware.) even still, the oem version of nero i have for lite-ns will work with it?

You can check your bundled version of Nero to see if it accepts Lite-On drives. In the Ahead folder (C:\Program Files\Ahead, or wherever you have it on your machine), look in the Nero folder for the file, MMC.DLL. In that file, look for the text string with Lite-On model numbers, for example, LTR-48248. If you find it, your copy of Nero will work with this drive. If you have an older Lite-On version of Nero, you can update it to recognize this drive.
