I will probably buy a Sony CPD-E400 19" monitor sometime soon. I think it only does 1600x1200 @ 70Hz. Does anyone run at this refresh rate, or have this monitor? Do you experience any eye strain? I wanted to get the G400, which does 85Hz @ 1600x1200, but I can't find it @ a B&M, and I kinda need it by Monday. Thanks in advance!

You might be happy with 1280x1024@85hz,Is there a reason you need that high of a resolution on a 19"?

Either current Sony 19" monitor (E or G400) can display 1600x1200 just fine. However, I strongly recommend G400 over E400 if you're a "high-res" person. 70Hertz is murdering your eyes. The G400 does 1600x1200 at a comfortable 87Hz max. If you need Sony and price is an issue, considering getting a refurb. Sony from Ubid.com. That's how I got my G500 for $690 shipped, running at 1600x1200x32 @95Hz right now! :)

I'd run in 1600x1200 mode on a 19", but I'd really prefer to have 85Hz or more, anything lower than 75Hz isn't too good for the eyes. I'd go for the G400, it's only a little bit more and you'll enjoy the higher refresh rates.

I'm a huge fan of Sony monitors. All I can say is make sure you are completely happy with the monitor when you buy it, if not, return it. I'm not saying they have a huge defect rate, but once you get a great Sony you'll never turn back.

Yet another option would be to get a Samsung or Mitsubishi monitor. Mitsubishi's aren't that much less costly than Sony's, but Samsung has some great offerings and make completely gorgeious monitors. I have a 17" Sony and a friend has a 17" Samsung, I like his better yet mine is "higher quality". Just something to think about. Samsung's 900NF is a great monitor. The 900IFT is great if you're looking for a flat shadow mask solution.

I own 2 Sony E400s. I love them. The only other one I would consider is the NEC triniton tube. Looks just about as good but costs about $100 less.

I too considered the NEC. I actually bought the FE950, but I noticed color bleeding and geometry problems with it, so I exchanged it. The second one had the same problem, so I gave up and returned it. I've been happy with all of my Sonys, so I think I'll buy Sony from now on, just to be safe.

Out of all the 19 flat screens I tried (7)....I like the Sony the best.....

geometry and focus are high priority and the Sony comes through

1600x1200 on a 19" is really murdering on the eyes. 1280x1024 is about right. but you'll want to adjust the font up a little if you think it's too small.

I run my E400 @1280x1024 @85 Hz. 1600x1200 I don't recommend because the icons are too small. The picture is crystal clear with a Matrox G400 Max
