....tough, uncompromising build quality.

Having been deeply impressed recently by the first of Sony?s new Bravia LCD range, the KDL-32S2010, we?re seriously excited by the arrival of the 40in KDL-40V2000. After all, it?s both bigger and even more feature-packed than its already illustrious sibling. So surely it can?t possibly go wrong, can it?

It?s certainly not been anywhere near the ugly stick, that?s for sure. We?ve seen more overtly glamorous TVs, but there?s something impressively serious looking about the Sony?s matt black fascia and tough, uncompromising build quality that makes the glamour pusses look rather shallow in comparison.

Since Sony?s ?V? models are a step up from the entry-level ?S? model we looked at before, we?d hoped Sony might have upped the 40V2000?s HDMI count. But sadly there?s still only one. Darn. Just as well some sort of compensation can be found in the presence (among other things) of component video ports, a D-Sub PC input and a CAM slot for adding subscription digital terrestrial services to your channel collection.

Ok when I froogle this tv (S-model Bravia) I get a number of places online selling it for $1600+, a number for less than $1900 with free or included shipping. The U model Bravia (tunerless) can be found for around 200 less, wouldn't that mean that its not that much more than the Westinghouse and Sceptre

Can someone tell me why I should wait for 1080p instead of 720p especially on a "reasonably" small 40" screen.

Oh and the major drawback I see with this tv seems to be the lack of DVI ports and only a single HDMI port.

Absolutely not a hot deal.

Several months ago I froogled this LCD on the net, then took my father in to best buy. Prices online were in the range of $2100.

Best buy WILL deal on big items like this, and while they couldn't price match, they lowered their price to $2300 + 200 best buy bucks plus the in-home extended service warranty.

This took one evening of work. I imagine one could go back and get it for even less now.

Read this thread with interest. I have looked at the 40" Bravia LCD too, but then I looked at the new 42" LG LCD's. There is 100.00 rebates on three models - the 42LC2D, 42LB1DR, & the 42LB1DRA (has a built in HD). From what I have read - the features on all three of these sets is closer to what is on the Sony XBR - but priced closer to the 40" Bravia after the rebate (at least in my area). Plus the Sony is really a Samsung (nothing really wrong with that - just Sony is not really making their own sets anymore).
Just my 2c.
