Wonder how this compares to the older 5000 model I have, the GUI is pretty bad...and WiFi sucks hard, but it works OK for a cheap player, and if they've improved anything with this model it should be a good deal.

I have the S3100 and my only complaint is that it doesn't support Dolby TrueHD.

I can let you know about the Wi-Fi when mine comes. I'll be running it that way, and a good distance from the router.

All reviews seem to indicate the Wi-Fi works very well though. Many citing it as an improvement over PS3 Netflix streaming (less buffering).

Great player for the money, IMHO.

I bought this a few months ago to replace a POS Samsung that had problems with a lot of blu-rays. I don't use wireless.

My wireless works fine, BTW.

This player supports more audio and video file types than most other brands and even plays SACDs. It also does an excellent job of up-converting DVDs.

As far as the lack of TrueHD support, it's not a problem for me because I rip my Blu-Rays with MakeMKV and it has the option to convert the TrueHD track to FLAC, which this player does support.

It plays DVD's too? Oh that is sweet, didn't know that. Cant wait for it to arrive.

TO be honest this is my first blu ray player. I gave up on buying movies after I bought like 100 DVD's and then HDTV's started coming out and I saw the whole planned obselescence thing for what it is. The fact that it plays discs is really secondary to the ability to stream Netflix and Youtube which is what im going to be using it for primarily. But since ive got one now ill probably upgrade my Netflix streaming account so I can rent blu rays too.

Good idea for upgrading your Netflix.

Some blu-rays do look much nicer than HD streaming because they're less compressed. For some movies getting rid of color banding or blocking is worth it.

I watch at lest half of my Netflix streamed, but for movies with visual effects or interesting landscapes blu-ray is the best way.

Also, if you watch any shows that aren't streamed, the blu-ray version often has more episodes per disc than the DVDs.

Lol, i had to respond to you. I bought the Sony BDP-S590 in 2012 and have seriously only watched maybe 4 movies on it.

Everything i watch lately is on my computer or Roku 3.

I can't even remember the last time i stepped foot in a video rental store or a redbox.

I guess it's just a sign of the times. Kind of miss the feeling of a real disc in my hands. :)

P.S. Looks like a good deal and Sony units are great, i did a lot of research before i bought mine. We have a Samsung at work that is just god awful. Takes forever to play anything and half of the time it refuses to play a disc.

Almost any Bluray Player iv seen can play all kind of DVDs. by the way when getting a bluray player you gotta have a few things in mind. first of all if they are able to play video files from the Flash disk usb. I know LG ones do that. it's important when you are trying to test 3d Movies from an external hdd. and also if it has a HDMI out it would be awesome so that way you can use it with 3d ready projectors and so you dont need a 3d processor, the Bluray player will do that for you.
