Looks like the Sony A7 mark ii has been announced. Japan only though?

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/the-...-three-new-a-mount-lenses-and-a77m2-firmware/

The good news is that my brand new Sony A7 has a future, which is nice. Bad news is that my toy is now old. But that explains why I saved $200 and the ongoing sales.

Kinda quick. Sony A7 came out about a year ago? DPReview is from January 2014. Wikipedia says it was announced October 2013.

Sony releases a lot of updates; if you buy a Sony camera, your camera will be "old" in 3 quarters.

The upside is Sony releases a lot of updates which pushes the bar higher.

I should probably stick to Canon... The 7D update took 5+ years? Oh well.

Check out the home page for that site for more photos and details. Looks like the mark 2 has a bigger body and a front plate in magnesium like the A7r.

From the sounds of it (i.e., DPR), most people are happiest with the new control layout and the revised grip.

Lol that's the best reason I've heard to go Canon in years!

My RX100 mk 1 feels your pain about being outdated (twice over) all too fast!

Does it make a big different if you are shooting with an old camera or new camera?

I purchased the 5D mkII less than 30 days before the 6D was announced (90 days latter it was available in stores), and I couldn't be bothered to return the 5D mkII and wait for the cheaper 6D.

IMHO, it is much more important to know your tools well over that of new gears.

Absolutely not, but it makes me feel good inside to know that I have the latest and greatest:).

Update: No dates, but the Sony Canada store has the A7II body and body + lens listed under the A7 section. They're "backordered."

The good thing is that the A7 is now even cheaper. Looks like they may be getting rid of the A7r too.

I believe US retailers should be shipping already for preorders.

Everyone here seems to be dumping their a7 on craigslist right now. For the same price I paid for my used a7 back in Oct, I could have gotten one with an extra battery and external grip if I waited. :-|

Sony built quality is right in the middle of the pack, and their repairs turn around time is slower than Canon but quicker than Nikon.

That said, if I spend $2,000 on the camera body I would like to see more than just 7 native mount lenses and accessories, as well as expect the IS (OSS) and sharpness to be at the very least be as good as third parties lenses that costs 2/3 or 1/2 of the price.

Only $1300 for the body now with the mkii coming out!

Seriously. Lenses are crazy expensive. I want a prime but my only native Sony full-frame option is like $800 (35mm or 50mm f/2.8) -- think I'll go 35mm. Canon okay 50mm f/1.8 is like $500.

The FE e-mount is just a little over a year old so 7 lenses is pretty impressive I must say. But I do agree that they are pricey. Just something you have to deal with when going FF. Hopefully as the system matures and more 3rd parties join in there will be more affordable lenses.

Sony is pricing the bodys low(ish) and the lenses high.

We'll see how that will turn out.

I already considered getting a body just to use it with Nikkors etc.

i get that trend too. but im hoping the adapters to my canon EF lenses will work fine. some people like the adapters, some dont. looks like adapters work only in some sony cams :(

Sony is updating its lines of camera rather quickly, compare to Canon. Hopefully I can get the original A7 for cheap soon, like under $1K.

Canikon 50mm f/1.8 are around $100-225, and f/1.4 are around $400.

Unfortunately you already committed to the Sony system. Because, if size and weight isn't a concern then the Nikon D600 or D610 + Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens would be a better buy IMHO.

I would be great if 3rd parties crank out lenses for Sony FF. However, I think if it does happen it will be slow because the Sony market share is slim.

Unless you need fast AF you can just use a cheap adapter and EF/F lenses until they have more options. Sony has left a gaping hole under their Zeiss-level-priced lenses which you can bet Sigma is licking its chops at.

Sony has 40% of the MILC market and if you develop for Sony E-mount APS-C you also basically get Fuji X, Samsung NX, PanaOly MFT, Canon EF-M, and Sigma's own APS-C mount for free. That's what, 80%+ of the mirrorless market?

For FE you're right, but it is only a matter of time. At least most of the lenses should be good. The 55/1.8 FE in particular is quite good.

Meh, no regrets. Pretty happy that I got a full-frame camera + zoom lens for $1500. Plan A was a Canon 6D, which goes to $1650 on sale for just the body.

If I really like photography, I'll get a 6D. Otherwise, only plan for lenses now is a 35mm or ~50mm prime. Shooting food and can see the use of a macro though.

Oh, crap. No, wait.

Price of backordered Sony A7 mkII at Sony Store (.ca version) is CAD$ 2300 for full kit and CAD$ 2000 for the body.

Price on the US site is US$ 2000 for kit and US$ 1700 for body. Looks like they factored in the 1.15 US to CAD conversion difference in pricing this. It was closer to parity last year.
