My brit lit teacher thought he was giving us a hard assignment...I don't think he realized was dealing with an accomplished songwriter :) We had to write a shakespearean sonnet, with full iambic pentameter and the right rhyming schemes and all that..I just adapted one of my songs :) Piece of cake :)

Alright, here's the sonnet:

I saw her face oh each and every day,
Just what to say to her I never knew,
She was perfect in each and every way,
All other girls she made look gray in hue.
She was the girl that I could never have,
For far too long I thought of her alone,
I had long dreams at which I could not laugh,
My love was deep, if I had only known,
Up high above from me I saw she stood,
She looked on me as one of small matter,
She did not love me as I thought she should,
My hopes and dreams did she fully shatter.
I know now that she is not right for me,
I have fin?ly begun to see clearly.

This is adpated from my song, "The Girl I Could Never Have"

Chorus:
The girl I could never have
Thought of her for so long
Dreams at night that made me mad
But now those things are all gone
Now I know she's not the one
For too long I wanted her alone
She brushed me off I saw that I was done
Moving on I've had a change of tone

Verse 1:
Saw her every day
Never knew just what to say
She was perfect in all ways
All others she made look gray

Verse 2:
What's so wrong with me
Can't give me a chance
If only she could see
I never got a second glance
She was high up above
Never wanting all my love
Wasted years I pined for her
Filled myself with love-starved hurt

Not too bad a translation.

Thanx :)

<< Ayeee... one of those cheesy love/longing-for-love song again... >>

Actually, to be a true shakespearian sonnet, the theme must be love, unreturned love, old age, praise of beauty, or something else I can't remember.
