ok guys, seems easy enough, but I have come up with a good method yet.

Someone gave me a soho sonicwall, which I thought would be very cool, but as far as I can tell it does not have dhcp enabled on the lan side. The guy that gave it to me does not know the IP of the router. According to sonicwall the ONLY way to admin this thing is via its web page on the internal ip addy. There is no reset buttons/switches that I can find (even on the inside).

So, I connected my lappy to the lan side and set the ip to 10.0.0.2/8 and proceeded with a nmap ping sweep, but found nothing. So then I did the same with 10.0.0.3/8 (incase the ip was .2), and nothing. So then I did the same with the 192.168.x.x addys and the 172.16-32.x.x addys... nothing...

So anyway, I'm getting annoyed. I'm starting to think the thing is not responding to pings (it is a firewall afterall), so I'm not sure how I'm gonna get its IP.

anyone have any ideas on how to get the ip or how to reset the d@mn thing to factory defaults?

It maybe set for Proxy ARP (real IPs) instead of Masquerade there for it is tough to find the internal IP (real IPs).
Try hooking a puter into the internal firewall port & uses your browser (IE/Nutscrape) to discover its proxy address.

Or, open the firewall case & look for a slot to plug a floppy/hdd cable, and make sure the bios look for your dive to boot, then uses a DOS boot disk to access the D: drive.
I'm not familiar with Sonic hardware therefor you have to find out which Disk-on-Chip technology that they uses & find the apropriate command to mount the solid-state memory.
Once the solid-stated mem is mounted you can then try to find the client.conf file or the alike to modifide IP/firewall configuration.

It is much easyer to built your own Linux firewall out of an old 486 than try to find the mount command & configuration file to edit....good luck with the quest :)

yea I found the default for the sonic wall, but someone has changed it. I'm not interested in it as a firewall since I already have one, but if I get it working I'll probably sell it. Also, I had already opened it up looking for some way to reset it, but to no avail, and there anr not any connectors on the inside that are available.

I remember on the watchguard U could reset it to default by connecting a crossover cable between the lan and wan ports and power it up, but thast didn't work on this one....

or maybe its just busted...
