Our firewall is a sonic wall pro 200, recently iv been having to restart the wall 2 - 3 times a day because it stops all traffic all together. Any have any insight on why sonic walls do this or a solution or my problem?

thanks

Couple of things to check for:

1) under log settings, make sure the check box for deactivate sonicwall (where it says " when log overflows"
is UNchecked
2)Under Acces, then services that the network activity time out is set high ( I have mine at 300mn)
3)under filter-URL list: make sure under settings that you have allow traffic to all websites" checked off (where it says: If Filter Categories are enabled and the Filter List is unavailable)

Start with those and we can go from there.

If it happens again, check out how many "current connections" there are under General-status

The pro should allow for 7000 or so concurrent conections (not users, but actual conections)

Also, which firmware are u running?

1. The log setting was check as "when log overflows: overwrite log"
2. my network activity time out was set to 5m so I changed it to 300 an we will see what that does.
3.Under the filter options, it only gives me 2 choices and i have to choose one. first choice : block all traffic to all web sites except for allowed domains.

Second one: Allow traffic to all web sites.

Now if i changed that to block all traffic. I am running a filter on this wall, is it still going to allow access to say cnn.com? or do i have to add all those address's into the trusted domain table?

Firmware version : 6.3.1.4
current connections is 34 ( but its still early)

Thanks for you help so far

Are you using THEIR content filter list (the one you pay for) or your own custom list?

If using your own custom list (like I do), or even if you are using theirs, set it to allow traffic to all websites.
That setting is if you are using their filter and it expires or isnt available, it will block ALL traffic if the 1st is checked off, or allow all if the 2nd one is checked off.
It will still block your custom filtered domains.

Is your SW relatively new for you guys?

Your firmware is an older version.
Current is 6.4.01

No this is our 3rd sonic wall we had 2 soho's before this but we had to upgrade becaues of size restrictions. We use their filter because its a school network and has to be filtered by law.
Can you give me a link for the newest firmware upgrade?

Thanks

If you have your SW registered with them, then go to mysonicwall.com to get it.
If not, hit me with a PM.
