IMO, Super Mario World is the epitome of platform games, with SM3 flollowing right on it's tail.
The level deisgn is genius, the controls are spot on, and it still has replay value (96 levels, and some with multiple exits). I still play it occasionally.
(SMB 3 Wikipedia entry)If Warp Zone is excluded as a set of stages, the entire game has a total of 90 accessible levels (as well as fifteen "lost levels" only accessible by hacking the game). It is therefore considered one of the largest classic games of all time, having more than the 32 levels of Super Mario Bros, more than the 32 levels of Super Mario Bros. Special, more than the 52 of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan), and more than the 72 of Super Mario World (it is often mistakenly assumed that Super Mario World has 96 stages, but that number includes the 24 secret exits in the game).

the super mario series alone was enough to beat out all others...let alone the classic nintendo versions. I mean, just think about Super Mario 64 and the Mario Kart series. Sonic couldn't have even come close to them. The nintendo mario games were just....cant even explain it.
Mario Kart 64 on its own > All Sonic racing games, ever

It's not that difficult: All Mario games vs All Sonic gamesOriginally posted by: eits
this is a very bad poll....
which mario bros are we talking here? 1, 2, 3, new?
it can't be mario bros 1 because comparing that to sonic is like comparing apples to oranges....

I don't think so - Topic title says Super Mario Bros - I think that means a specific game and not the franchise.

I never liked SMK that much, MK64 was more fun to play and racing with the d-pad on the SNES was fvcking tough. SMK was definitely better than Double Dash though, didn't find it as fun as the previous two MK games.
