Sonic Drive-In. Why?

What's the attraction of eating a greasy burger in your car? The food looks good but after a long drive the last thing i want to do is eat in my car.

Anyone visit this burger joint more than once?

Sonic plays back to the days before the drive-through. You pulled in, placed your order, some young thing on roller skates delivered your food, you ate in your car, (and your friends or kids often spilled stuff all over your upholstery 😡) they came and took the tray away...

Sonic does part of it right...all except the quality of the food. IMO, it's the worst fast food place in town.
If you want your food to go...they also have a drive-through.

Some of their drinks are OK, but that's about it...oh, and they're the only place locally that has tater tots.

Drive-ins were cool. I still remember A&W drive-ins when I was a kid. Some of the best memories I have of father/son time.

I wish we had a drive-in here.

🙁

We still have an A&W drive in here. Their food is mediocre at best...but I still like their root beer in the big frosty mugs.

Sonic was good back when it was still a family owned Oklahoma company. Since the early 90's when it went public it has been sliding downhill. The pace seems to have accelerated in the last couple of years from my few visits there.

Yeah, the A&W that was near me had so-so food, but the rootbeer was pretty damn good. I would go to Sonic now and then. Not too often because it was a bit of a drive out of town.

There is only one sonic near me, its near my college, when its 2am and we are hungry we drive their and sit down, its a nice snack. Sure the quality is kinda meh, but its good.

Don't care for the Sonic closest to me everything tastes soggy. The A&W though in my town is top notch.

Yeah, Sonic doesn't have the best food, but they can be pretty good if you're craving fast food. They have a lot of variety too which helps out a lot if you have a group of people.

Like any franchise, really it depends on the quality of the people working there. There were two Sonics in town, and one had really nice people working there and they were quick in making food and it was consistently good. The other one was dog-ass slow and you couldn't trust them to get drink right (as in, you could order a Coke and they'd find a way to fuck it up).

I always think of big fat Americans crying and eating there in their cars. Probably not that depressing...but close I'm sure.

they have Tater Tots, I can't think of another fast food chain that has them. 9/10 times I'd want fries. But if I'm out and craving some Tots, that's the only place I can get them. Also the only chain in So Cal I know of that has Frito Pies. I could care less about the burgers and hot dogs, but Frito Pies are hella good when you have some beers in you and are craving some fast food to munch on.

i had no idea a&w was still around. when i was a kid they were a drive up place with burgers called "papa", "mama" and "baby". the drive ups all closed and it became a moderately expensive shopping center burger places with great food and a salad bar where you would garnish you sandwich. then those closed and it became a place that shared a building with kfc's or taco bells

Sonic is great for a quick snack or a mid-afternoon drink. The kids love the slushes, and the tater tots are tasty. Don't actually eat the other food very often, but it doesn't seem any better or worse than the other fast-food burger places. They have a half-price happy hour for the drinks which the family likes to take advantage of. The Sonic near us, actually has picnic benches with umbrellas, so you could sit and eat if you want (although weather might prevent this).

No A&W near us, but we have a Stewart's. Similar to what people have said about A&W, Stewart's has great root beers and root beer floats. Food is so-so, which is to say, its about the same as any Friendly's or Denny's. It's a nice place that's been in the town for a long time, run by a local family.
