ooo ooo

I was floored by Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats origionally by The Knife.

I heard his first, and liked it, but then when I heard the original, I marveled at what he had done.

Most of the songs off Dream Theater's remake of Metallica's Master of Puppets album.

I just had to check this on youtube. Yep, good cover alright.

Gob's version of Paint It Black is absolutely terrible. Why does every band double the speed of a song then claim that it's better? I'm still waiting for some idiot to double the speed of something like Stairway to Heaven then claim success.

I don't even think this counts as a cover. He played Led Zeppelin record then narrated with some words. Usually the term "cover" means you actually play it yourself.

Some I like both versions, just depends on my mood:

Eric Clapton - I shot the Sheriff <vs> Bob Marley
Hootie & The Blowfish - Hey HeyWhat can I do <vs> Zeppelin

I'm surprised how many people favor GnR's covers over the originals.

Dylan's Knockin' on heaven's door > GnR
Wings' Live and let die > GnR
Chapin's Cat's in the cradle > GnR

the list goes on... :p

GnR didn't do Cats in the Cradle. That was Ugly Kid Joe.

And any cover version of any Bob Dylan song is better than the Dylan original.

Van Halen-You Really Got Me.....Ray Davies of the Kinks even used to tell his audience "we're going to do a Van Halen song now", they owned that song so well.

Van Halen...Ice Cream Man

GnR...Knockin' on Heaven's Door

Zeppelin did a lot of covers that were better than the originals.

Ok, I have to throw some Cake into the mix here, how could I forget?

The Guitar Man
War Pigs

Cake did a War Pigs cover? I've -got- to hear that :Q

Oh and I won't say Tool's cover of No Quarter is better than the original, but it's badass nonetheless.

Cake - War Pigs

A bit different, but pretty good.

Good cover, but that was Dope not Orgy. From Wikipedia...

The song was covered by the heavy metal band Dope This version can be found on American Psycho: Music from the Controversial Motion Picture and Felons & Revolutionaries . This version is often mislabeled on P2P programs as being by Marilyn Manson, Orgy, Billy Idol or Powerman 5000.

However, their cover of Blue Monday is much better than the original.

It's on their B-sides and Rarities album, which they released a couple months ago DIY. They've severed the major label umbilical cord, buy their album :D
The cover of Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town is pretty good as well.
