im using SBLive! 7.1 24-bit on my mobo (main reason i got the MSI over the ASUS/DFI) but sometimes games wont let me use hardware mixing (eg FEAR, BF2) and it only works up to EAX 3.0 - my question - is it really worth it to spend more on an Xtreme Music despite all the buggy crap thats floating around these new X-FI cards?

i think this should be in peripherals...but thats just me.

anyways, well apparently creative is supposed to fix the bugs in their newer bios or whatever the x-fi's have.

x-fi is only if you NEED the latest and greatest and paired up with some good 5.1+ speakers. if not, i think you can get by with an audigy2 or 4 or whatever their last generation was.

What kind of speakers do you have?

My X-Fi card hasn't given me any problems. Just use the newest drivers off Creative's website. The ones on the CD are crap.

i have creative 7.1 speakers, not the gigaworks but the other ones. Also, can you play BF2 on ULTRA Xfi settings, or does that slow it down tremedously?

ultra xfi? whats that?

actually, now that i think about it AFTER looking at your rig, i agree with sentry2. why not get the x-fi. its a good compliment to your high-end system.

With the newest drivers off they're site BF 2 works fine on X-Fi settings and Ultra. Not so good with the ones off the cd though. Man I want some gigaworks 7.1's...

I didn't notice a huge difference between the ZS card I had and the X-Fi, but I had already spent sooo much money it didn't really matter.

the first batch of X-FI cards didn't play nice with nForce4 motherboards. I hope they have that problem sorted now...

sentry2, do you have the xtreme music, or do you have the crazy fatal1ty one or whatever? i really hate add in cards, and i was considering getting a new mobo from MSI-the K8N Diamond Plus with onboard Audigy SE on it, but that also might be limited with EAX, so im not really sure. Maybe ill just wait it out...im so confused!

also...does anyone know where i can find out if the audigy SE can use EAX 4.0 or if there is a chart for EAX and which cards can support what versions, and not the one on the soundblaster website?

whatever, f it, i just bought the damn X-fi platinum out of sheer bordem at work today...ohh well it better be damn GOOD!

ps-i hate creative crap
