im not usually a fan of the guardian but some times, just some times they have something i agree with.
its not that i find clubs disgusting sweaty dungeons filled with posers though, its just that 9 times out of 10 i dont actually enjoy going to them, even if i am drunk. i wont beat down on anyone that does go an enjoys it, each to his own, we all have our ideas of fun but I mean if you have to get off your tits to enjoy yourself in a club then im sorry but the club wasnt worth the coin to get in.
having said that i am a kind of odd one out in my groups of friends...they either like trashy pop/cheese when they go out or they like obscure rock and indie bands, and i like neither. its not even that im afraid to be seen dancing, i couldnt care less about what im doing, whos watching me and what theyre doing, if im having a good time.
but when its crap and they play crap music and its full of emo's and underage idiots like Echo's in loughborough its just not enjoyable. that is one shite club, yes its sweaty, its cheap and the music choice is bad....and its compounded by an equally bad sound set up. i even did a few shots of kim beam to get me going, but nothing....this place is that bad.
best laugh is you get like groups of people that just prove that they have no imagination whatsoever. a good selection of people, guys mainly, all turn up with the exact same hair cut/style and all looking like they just walked out of a topman catalogue (topman is a reasonably priced, generic fashion shop for men). and then you get the emo types who in their vain attempts to look unique also all end up looking exactly the same.
big sunglasses, bleached or blackened hair thats straightened and combed over at the front and messed up at the back, those tight skinny jeans, some vans or converse plimsol like shoes, natty overly large jewellery and some piercings or tattoos.
we like to call in genericism.
for me it if its gonna be a club its gotta be either break beat, house, techno or drum n bass, or a breakdancing event. failing that really i do just enjoy a good time down the pub, with some mates, pub grub and (if its whetherspoons) sampling the range of bevvies they have on offer.
EDIT: clearly his mistake was to go out to a posh place in london.... plenty of people there who will actively look down their noses at you like you are bain of society and make you feel unwelcome.
