Somewhat amusing article attacking nightclubs and nightclubbers...

I've had a good time in a clubs at college when i was off my face, but the few times i have gone into one remotely sober i tended to wonder the same thing as this bloke, but rather less eloquently 😉

EDIT: I had forgotten that while also being incredibly rich, clever, and awesome, the average ATOT'er picks up bazillions of sweaty hotties the moment he steps on the dance floor, and thus always enjoys clubbing 😉

Hot, sweaty women dressed in minimal clothing who want to rub themselves all over you? Yeah, who'd want to go there.

That's what usually happens to you at clubs is it? Do you take them home too, all of them?

I totally agree with this article. People go there, act like someone else, get hammered, jump up and down all night (all the while thinking they are mad good dancers because of the liquor they ingested) in the hopes of waking up next to some vd infested skank the next morning.

I hardly drink so it always amused me how the next time I spoke to someone who was at that club how badly they distorted the evening in their mind because they were too drunk to remember it correctly. Maybe that is why some folks enjoy it so much, they invent their own version of the evening in their mind.

I prefer bars anyway since I typically like to be able to hear myself think.

Most of the ones I go to also have a dance section but I stay away from it. Getting groped in every conceivable way while drunkenly flailing about just doesn't have much appeal.

Clubs are only fun if you're rich enough for the VIP section. Otherwise I don't bother, those places are just filled with the type of people I dislike.

this guy is a tool though.

it's like me going to a ballet and writing badly about it because it's something I don't like and have never liked.

some people like clubs, some don't. this guy needs to get over it.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's not all about titillation either; sometimes you just want to go somewhere where the music is loud, the drinks are overprices and you can cut loose for a little while.

I suspect that a large amount of people are going to 'disagree' with me and boil it down to "OMG posers with too much gel in their hair just want to pick up STD-laden women" without realizing that women of every stripe make it down to clubs on a fairly regular basis. But hey I'm sure you'll all have better luck meeting girls at your next LAN party.

Side note: I love LAN parties, just not the geek holier than thou attitude people take here.

It's absolutely nothing like you going to the ballet writing badly about it because it's something you don't like and have never liked.

I'm sorry, but that's the worst analogy ever 😉

I can see where you're coming from, but he made me chuckle 😱

I've been to one LAN party in my life, and i got rather drunk and had a blast 😉

I'm not sure if you bothered to read the OP, where i quite clearly stated that i had enjoyed going to clubs after rather too many, but i took offence to your 'i'm so cool and pick up teh hot sweaty chicks and bang them ITB, and anyone who disagrees with me is a homo' attitude 😛

I wasn't responding to you, I was responding to the article writer. And I didn't infer a single thing about my own luck at a club at all, nor anything about anyone's sexuality. There's a very appropriate Shakespeare quote for this but I'll leave you to guess at it.

What did you mean by this then?

Hot, sweaty women dressed in minimal clothing who want to rub themselves all over you? Yeah, who'd want to go there.

That people who didn't want hot sweaty women rubbing themselves over you were allergic to sweat?

EDIT: let alone this:

No way that could have been directed at me in any way, coming as a reply to my post, and no way you're being sneering and superior while making some equally inane generalisations as the article writer? 😛

im not usually a fan of the guardian but some times, just some times they have something i agree with.

its not that i find clubs disgusting sweaty dungeons filled with posers though, its just that 9 times out of 10 i dont actually enjoy going to them, even if i am drunk. i wont beat down on anyone that does go an enjoys it, each to his own, we all have our ideas of fun but I mean if you have to get off your tits to enjoy yourself in a club then im sorry but the club wasnt worth the coin to get in.

having said that i am a kind of odd one out in my groups of friends...they either like trashy pop/cheese when they go out or they like obscure rock and indie bands, and i like neither. its not even that im afraid to be seen dancing, i couldnt care less about what im doing, whos watching me and what theyre doing, if im having a good time.

but when its crap and they play crap music and its full of emo's and underage idiots like Echo's in loughborough its just not enjoyable. that is one shite club, yes its sweaty, its cheap and the music choice is bad....and its compounded by an equally bad sound set up. i even did a few shots of kim beam to get me going, but nothing....this place is that bad.

best laugh is you get like groups of people that just prove that they have no imagination whatsoever. a good selection of people, guys mainly, all turn up with the exact same hair cut/style and all looking like they just walked out of a topman catalogue (topman is a reasonably priced, generic fashion shop for men). and then you get the emo types who in their vain attempts to look unique also all end up looking exactly the same.

big sunglasses, bleached or blackened hair thats straightened and combed over at the front and messed up at the back, those tight skinny jeans, some vans or converse plimsol like shoes, natty overly large jewellery and some piercings or tattoos.

we like to call in genericism.

for me it if its gonna be a club its gotta be either break beat, house, techno or drum n bass, or a breakdancing event. failing that really i do just enjoy a good time down the pub, with some mates, pub grub and (if its whetherspoons) sampling the range of bevvies they have on offer.

EDIT: clearly his mistake was to go out to a posh place in london.... plenty of people there who will actively look down their noses at you like you are bain of society and make you feel unwelcome.

Guy seems to think hooking up = breeding. I am willing to bet he #1 doesn't fit in and #2 can't meet women anywhere.

A club is a terrible place to meet your next wife anyone would agree. However; most are just looking for some non-committed fun.

Doug Butabi: So anyways, I was standing there waiting to use the pay phone.
Steve Butabi: Yeah, he was, seriously.
Doug Butabi: And this guy who was on the phone, turns around and tips his hat like this.
Steve Butabi: And who do you think that guy was?
Doug Butabi: Emilio Estevez.
Steve Butabi: The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God, I was there.
Doug Butabi: Of course you were, you were the one who yelled the Breakfast Clubber's name.
Steve Butabi: I was like, "Emiliooooo."

😀

I've always enjoyed going to clubs and used to go quite a bit, but that's because I've always enjoyed dancing. But I'll also say, I didn't enjoy the bs that usually goes along with the singles scene in the clubs, so I can count on one hand the number of times I've gone without some girl in tow.

Now, I'm too old for that shit. The wife and I still dance occasionally, but not at the clubs any more.

Seven hours hopping about in a hellish, reverberating bunker in exchange for sharing 64 febrile, panting pelvic thrusts with someone who'll snore and dribble into your pillow till 11 o'clock in the morning, before waking up beside you with their hair in a mess, blinking like a dizzy cat and smelling vaguely like a ham baguette? Really, why bother? Why not just stay at home punching yourself in the face? Invite a few friends round and make a night of it. It'll be more fun than a club.

 hahaha That's great!

I do enjoy clubs though. Unfortunately, there aren't any decent ones here. Sydney and Manly had some amazing ones. There was this place called the Retro Hotel... Seven bars on five levels. Each floor had a decade theme (eg, 60's, 70's) and it was good.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. Clubs might be okay if it were possible to have a conversation.

[I'm convinced no one actually likes clubs. It's a conspiracy. We've been told they're cool and fun; that only "saddoes" dislike them. And no one in our pathetic little pre-apocalyptic timebubble wants to be labelled "sad" - it's like being officially declared worthless by the state. So we muster a grin and go out on the town in our millions.

Clubs are despicable. Cramped, overpriced furnaces with sticky walls and the latest idiot theme tunes thumping through the humid air so loud you can't hold a conversation, just bellow inanities at megaphone-level. And since the smoking ban, the masking aroma of cigarette smoke has been replaced by the overbearing stench of crotch sweat and hair wax.[/quote]

😀

Drugs render location meaningless. Neck enough ketamine and you could have the best night of your life squatting in a shed rolling corks across the floor. And no one's going to search you on the way in. Why bother with clubs?

aye you brits...great stuff:laugh:

Even if you somehow avoid reproducing, isn't it a lot of hard work for very little reward? LOL

I enjoy myself at night clubs, although I also only tend to go when I have other friends present; I'd imagine being in one alone to be quite hellish, but that's just me.

I like a good bar as well, it just depends on the mood I'm in that night.
