For the first time since 1999, I cleaned my keyboard tonight. Took a couple of hours to set each key free and remove the lint under it, then removing the organic deposit on the key sides. Strangely enough, the keyboard areas I use the least often were the dirtiest.

Only the numpad area was left to clean.

And the area where the wrist rest attaches to the keyboard.

Final tally, 8 years worth of lint and some hair from my head.

Also replaced the broken right alt key with one from another keyboard. Now I'm good for another decade or so.

No offense but if you don't have pets that walk on your desk you are disgustingly dirty.

i don't clean keyboards, when they get nasty, i throw them out and put a new one in its place

I have three others that were given to me but they just don't feel and click as nicely. I guess I'm used to the familiar sound this one makes.

Now that you mention sounds sometimes I think I slam my fingers down on my laptop keyboard because the one I used for 5-8 years on my desktop was really loud.

I had one keyboard that I cleaned a few times, made in 1996. It was finally decomissioned last year. Before the last cleaning, a few keys started to stick, and wouldn't pop back up. Even after cleaning the entire thing, this still didn't stop. Maybe the thin rubber sheet had just lost its springiness. The keyboard was a good deal though for $6.95. Now I'm stuck with a new Logitech keyboard with one of those damn F-lock keys, which is of course disabled by default.
