Sometimes my computer won't start, always can 'restart' though

Sometime my computer won't start after a power down....I have to unplug and then repower back on....

When I try to power it on, the lights flash, the monitor starts, the fans start to spin and it stops.

I have an Antec True Power 550, TUV4X motherboard and tualatin 1.1A....Bios is 1006.002

It acted like this when I first installed. The BIOS was applying a 3:1 ratio multiplier to my 100 fsb setting.

Everytime I've seen something similar it was a power supply problem. Try replacing it if you have a spare sitting around. If not, is the fan spinning properly and is it free of obstructions?

What is the video card? cause i know there is a cold boot issue some of the high end radeons

I had the exact same problem with that motherboard after I bought an Asus TI4400 128 MB video card. After buying a new 400w (don't remember model) power supply the problem went away.

First, reset your CMOS settings. Power down your system, and totally take it apart. Clean everything from PCI card contacts to dust in the case. Rebuild the system, and make sure every item is seated properly. A system rebuild will solve problems more than you think. Often times there is a pin that is just one pin off or something very minor like that.

the antec 550 was bad, this morning I just got 'CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK'

swapped in my 300 TurboCool and no more problems (except my PCD-15B PCMCIA adaptec freezes windows on my 3950U2B card....).

it's going back to amazon I think 300Watts (real power) is plenty for my 4 CD/DVDs, 2 removeables, and 2 HD's + 4 case fans.

Maybe if I go RAID in the future I'd need to upgrade, but on my calculations 300W will cover it.
