First of all, this probably aint normal:

I'm using a Netgear 802.11g router w/ a USB Microsoft 802.11g adapter w/ the antennas facing each other. The router and USB adapter are no more than 20-30 feet away, but through 3 walls and my signal is low and sometimes very low.

Anyway, sometimes I'll lose the signal and I'll have to reboot to get it back. I cannot rescan and try to reconnect, it won't work. Sometimes it'll hang on reconnecting and say my WEP password is incorrect (i dont even have WEP installed right now to try to get the best signal). Only rebooting seems to get it working again.

What's up?!! anyone know how to fix this?

sometimes my mini-pci will drop connection too. i disable the network connection (icon in the tray, or in the network widget in the control panel) and then enable it. it works for me after that.

thanks rainypickles...

disabling then enabling seems to get the connection again.

i dont know why the connect is so weak across 30 feet and 3 walls though. I've tried changing channels and everything!

I have a similar problem with my Dlink DWL-650 and DI-624. Occasionally the scanning will get another signal but it is painful. I was under the impression that the wireless connection would be more or less ok through a couple of walls (just sheetrock). That seems to be more of the exception than the norm.

Are there ways to boost the signal or was going wireless an error in the first place?

Thanks

Update drivers. Get newer ones, or roll back to older ones.

I've seen this problem a lot, sometimes updating the drivers is all you need to do.

i've updated the driver and firmware to newest ones already.

still the wireless performance is pretty bad. if i had known it was going to be like this, i'd rather just get wires

would switching to 802.11b mode give better results (not for speed, but for range and signal?)

is there anyway to get a better signal?!!

should i get a repeater? that'll double the distance but halve the throughput right?

i really hate this range.. should i upgrade to Super G? Would that give better range?

netgear = nightmare.

does it say you have a great connection when your closer? does it still drop signal?
