Sometimes computer starts but monitor does not recognize its on

I recently pulled out the GPU to clean the fans, I inserted the card back into the motherboard and started up the computer. I immediately noticed that all the fans on both the cpu and the video card were revving up to full RPM and the monitor was not recognizing the pc as being on. No boot screen or anything, the computer then shutdown and started back up on its own and the monitor showed the boot screen and everything was fine.

I later shut down the computer went out, I then came home and turned it back on. The same thing happened, the cpu, and gpu fans were really loud but the monitor was not picking up any video input. The computer then got really quiet, the fans went back down to normal speeds and the boot screen appeared on the monitor.

When using the computer, there are no issues, not with the video card, cpu, or monitor. Any ideas what could be causing this to happen?

Sounds like it isnt quite seated properly. Have you tried giving it another seat attempt?

I've seen many a card seem like it was seated properly for a reseat to fix it.

Really there isnt a whole lot that it could be since the only change was a cleaning. Either it got a little bit of a static shock or possibly it was ready to go and moving it around finally ended its life or it just needs reseated. What GPU is it btw

GTX 260, sometimes when i turn on the computer the monitor comes on and it boots fine, other time i have to push down on it.... weird. And I figured out it wasnt my cpu or gpu making loud noise at all...its my power supply it sounds like a jumbo jet....When the psu fan is normal its loud, but not annoying. It randomly revs up for no reason, its pushing out cold air, and nothing in this computer really takes up much power. When the fan revs up you can hear this thing from a mile away, my lord.

This power supply is definitely messed up, when ever I put the side panel back on the case it starts revving up, and as soon as I take the side panel off the fan lowers its self back down. Only to randomly rev up every few minutes while doing absolutely nothing.

Pull the GPU and, with a lintless cloth, clean all contacts with DEOXIT (and that includes any connectors for/from the PSU which are on the GPU). Reinstall the card.

Also try starting the computer while at the same time putting pressure on the GPU with your hand (eg, pushing down and sideways slightly on the GPU).

The fast/loud running PSU fan is remindful of a PSU no load condition that I encounter when putting my desktop into a stand-by condition via the main power on/off button (ie, the computer goes into stand-by, but the fan does not shut down and instead begins to run loudly at abnormal high speed).

You may just have a bad internal connection/connector.

Recommend re-seating all PSU connectors.

It is not common, but does happen more often that one would think that a bad connection is created (aggravated?) during a maintenance operation such as involving going inside the computer case (eg, cleaning out dust, changing a PCI card, etc.).

How can a bad connection cause the power supply to rev up extremely loud? When I am watching a 1080p video this PSU sounds like a jet...no joke.

When my cpu throttles up from 1.1ghz to 2.2ghz the psu fan just goes crazy.

Anything could be happening from a PSU sensor/thermistor going bad to some PSU component resulting in a PSU inefficiency (eg, leaky main capacitor).

Go to Fry's Electronics and get a replacement PSU. If that turns out to not be the issue then you can return it (within 14 days).

After that either take it to a shop or be prepared to pull the whole system down and incrementally reconstruct as part of forensic analysis.

I took the psu out of the case but kept it plugged in to everything, the psu stopped revving up....its pretty quiet now. I have no clue whats causing it, I put it back in the case and it revvs up again.

Do you have proper airflow going through your case? Front should be intake, rear it output, top is output.

Yeh fan at the back, case is laying horizontal with no side panel on. The psu only revs up now every 20 or so minutes while gaming, still not sure why it does it because the psu feels cold.

This thread started with a video monitor issue and switched to a misbehaving PSU, so I am not sure what the current situation is.

I just came in to say that I have seen crashed legacy ATI video drivers cause the computer to startup without any output to the monitor. Yet, if I connect to that computer remotely through Teamviewer, I then receive video output and am able to restart the computer. Restarting the computer will typically return video output to the monitor.

Motherboard: ASrock AM2+
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD7700
