Last Wednesdays Newegg Shell shocker was a Lenovo S20 Workstation for $248. It included a Xeon 2.66ghz Quad Core CPU, 4gig DDR3 memory and a 1TB Seagate Constellation ES HD Plus other goodies like a DVD writer. I said what the heck, I'll roll the dice and see what I get.

It arrived in a sturdy box filled with that expanding foam that completely cushioned it on all sides, an outstanding packing job. The unit itself looked pristine, not a scratch to be seen. The inside was clean as new with no dust to be seen anywhere. Firing her up revealed a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit with zero bloatware, just Win 7. She ran perfectly and very fast. She's also whisper quiet, I can barely hear her running.

I bought her with the intention of making a quick buck but decided she's a keeper. Best $248 I ever spent. Strange thing is it did not show up on any hot deals forums that I check. I didn't post it because I wasn't sure what I'd get. Just wish I had ordered 3 or 4.

Except that this workstation is a bit of a niche market at this point. I'm sure it's perfect for the OP but when you take a look at this subjectively:

1) 130W 4 core Nehalem generation CPU
2) Stock PSU

I'm getting at there are better options for most applications of a PC now:

Gaming PC - Need PSU, GPU and possibly better CPU for mediocre gaming
Browsing PC / NAS / Work PC- Wasteful and hot
Server - Need to spend $200 on memory, no redundancy, high relative power usage / flop

See how due to its age, there's no perfect application for it anymore. It works for any of the three above but there's better alternatives if you build and spend a bit more money. Keep in mind that extra money will come back if you invest in a new low power usage system.

Not thread crapping, but just saying... it's not that hot of a deal simply due to age.
