Sometime In between 1:30 and 2:30 PM, I ALWAYS feel really hot and doze off in front of my computer. WHY!?

Good morning, everybody! I just woke up from an unexpected nap that I didn't want to take.

It seems to be a very regular thing. I'm doing my work (really!) in front of my computer when I all of a sudden feel really warm and just doze off against my will. I can't fight it no matter what I try. I stand up, walk around, and try to get back to work. Nothing works; I still fall asleep. It's driving me nuts! Of course, it could be attributed to digestion/metabolism working its magic, but I normally eat at 11:00. Why do I always nod off two to three and a half hours later?!

/edit One other question -- would it be best if I not try to fight it and just go with the flow (i.e shut my office door and just take a nap)?

What do you eat for lunch? Try something different.

I'm hypoglycemic..if I eat the wrong thing, it can basically knock me out for a while.

Hmmm... my lunch eating habits are very ritualistic and set in their ways, but very healthy (IMO), too.

Pretzels
Yoplait Light Yogurt
Standard Ham/Turkey/Whatever sandwich
Banana
Baby Carrots
Applesauce

I occasionally go out for lunch, but the above is what I eat almost everyday. You might have a point about trying something different, though.

I think its because your body expends a great deal of energy on digestion, thus making you feel very tired.

Mixing carbs and proteins, as in the sandwich, makes digestion take much longer (in theory)

It's all greek to me, but according to this site (that I've never heard of... it was the 1st google hit):

How can I avoid that mid-afternoon slump?

Add a few meatballs to your bowl of pasta at lunch, and you'll avoid the serotonin surge altogether. Protein introduces a new batch of amino acids to your bloodstream that compete with tryptophan for entry into the brain, so you never get that sleepy feeling. Toss your tagliatelle with some lean meat or low-fat cheese, and you should be energized and alert for the afternoon, as long as your meal isn't also covered in a heavy cream sauce. (Eating a rich, heavy meal can make you lethargic for other reasons -- it ties up all your energy in the digestion process.)

But now that I think about it, most of my lunches with some hunk of meat usually keep me aware enough to get through the afternoon. So moral of the story: carry a spare pork loin with you? :p

I eat something different every day, but I always get tired between 1:30 and 2:30 as well. Don't know why.
