I like the idea that if it's a bat, then he has chipmunks and swarms of insects at his door also. :D

For years during the warm months of the year we've had some critter poopin' on our porch. They are very similar to mouse droppings in shape but are too big for a mouse. What's interesting is that it has been going on for so many years that's it's almost like each generation is teaching their offspring that the corner of our porch is the place. I have a hard time believing that some critter the size to produce these droppings could live in excess of ten years.

Sprinkle some cayenne/chilly flakes to repel mammals if you doorstep is dry. For the bats, use some bird spikes.

Yeah, I almost guarantee it is bats. Mine don't hide behind anything -- they cling to the bricks in the corners by the ceiling.
Yup, it's bats. I got 55 recordings last night with the camera aimed up high into the corner. The bats were flying in and out all night long. I looked at maybe 20 recordings and easily half of them showed bats. They'd fly in and out and some would cling to the brick at the top corner and leave me a present that would fall to the concrete floor of the porch

I zoomed in and saved some closeup stills but the resolution is too low and you just end up seeing something unidentifiable on the brick. These are as-recorded stills. The bats are in the upper right of the brick where it meets the overhang.

Lucky... Bats are awesome. Been meaning to go out and see if I still have them in my oak tree.

Yeah, we just give the porch a few second sweep and all traces are gone. It's not a big deal. I'm glad to know what was doing it. It truly has been going on for easily ten years.

I remember mentioning to my wife years ago that we needed a video camera to find out what was doing it. I got the Foscam late last fall to have at the house while we were gone for the winter and just the other day realized I now have what I said we needed years ago.

It's also kind of amazing how much activity is going on through the night. I should probably point it out towards the road one night and see what I get. We see deer all the time. Once we saw seven does all winding their way through the trees and then our yard and back into the trees. This, while my wife sat on the deck as they walked through. I just happened to be at the kitchen window and saw them too. We've seen turkeys and once we saw a fox. We know there are racoons and skunks too. A lot of these critters are active at night so the cam may show some interesting stuff.

But the sensitivity is something I'll have to play around with. The highest is fine inside the house when it doesn't pick up anything but outside when it records when an insect flies into its path makes for a ton of recordings to look through. It would take the fun out of trying to record animals.
