Some people notice ghosting more than others...

I don't understand how someone is going to see more of a trailing effect than the person standing next to him. Someone prove me right or wrong and I'll give you a cookie.

I could imagine it happening.

Some people hear better than others, some people see better than others. Some people are more sensitive to light, and other visual objects. Have you ever read an instruction manual for a video game talking about seizures? For some people, a 65hz refresh rate would give them a headache, for others, its fine.

It varies from people to people.

Not to mention that individual people can become less sensitive to ghosting the more they use a ghosting monitor. So two people can be at differing levels of familarization with ghosting monitors, and percieve differing levels.

Is the real problem with a slow response time on an LCD with fast moving images, such as an opponent in UT2004, becoming "invisible" or "ghostlike" because the monitor can't draw the image fast enough?

How can one get used to or be less sensitve to something they can't see?

they don't become invisable or ghostlike, they "ghost" as in you they leave a bit of a trail where the pixels are fadeing out. and yes some people notice it more than others as some people are just more perceptive than others. just like some people don't notice the tearing from not having vsync on, and some people will claim a game is running smooth even when they get dips into the 20s.

everybody's eyes are different.

For instance, I have astigmatism.

Not only are eyes different, but the part of the brain that processes input from them is as well. I'll take a white chocolate & macadamia please :D

Exactly. I only owned CRT monitors till today and that's my objections to not getting a LCD yet.
I've seen and played in many LCDs that friends have, and I have to say that ghosting still is noticeable to me,especially in FPS and heavily intensive fights with lots of sprites on screen.
Though I have to say that I look for it too, so my opinion maybe somewhat biased. That dosn't negate the fact that is still visible to me. I will wait for better response times that can reproduce colors better too and get me a $$$LCD when they worth it.

Just as some people think 30 fps is tolerable while others think anything under 60 fps is garbage. I'm using a 25ms samsung 172N (no dvi even) and can't notice the slightest ghosting. Thank god I'm one of those people, means I can spend less on lcd's :).

its ur brain adapting to the situation, if u have a crap graphics card and always play games at 30fps then u will get used to it, same with the hz on the monitor, im use to 85hz any lower and it kills me, im also use to 30fps in games, and if it goes up to something like 70 then to me it looks like its going well fast, even though it isnt.

another example is flat screen monitors and ones which have a curve, i have a curve one at the moment but my friend has a triniton flatscreen, and when i look at that it looks like theres a big dent in the screen.

They are retarded then :p

Thats only with CRTs, but thats only because the electron gun cant move fast enough and keep up with the color changes.

Yes, but they have something wrong with them. Its not because they see less or more...

Or you developed a taste for it...

You mean used to lag? Uh, is impossible to predict when your FPS will drop, at least exactly. Lets get 2 of the top Ut2k4 players at the CPL. Lets lock one of their computers @ 30 FPS and the other @ 60, will the guy with 30 get used to it?

its probably the default 60hz refresh rate that hurts your eyes.

Its the way CRTs are made to work thats hurts his eyes. You're eyes try to focus on a word, but it disappers for 1/60th of a second and comes back. You're eyes are trying to focus on something thats going in and out, subconsciously.

One thing I've noticed is that even on my own system(Mitsubishi CRT) if I am playing a game, everything looks fine. If someone else is playing a game and I'm watching them, then a lot of things become noticeable that were not before, such as Minor Jerkiness or even occassional Freezes. It's almost as if(like someone mentioned earlier) that I'm so used to things and/or am too pre-occupied while Playing(more Focus on eye-hand coord, Inputing Mouse/KB commands, etc) Games that little Glitches slip through unnoticed.
