Something wrong with my HD

Ok, I've never encountered a problem like this before. Whenever I'm trying to get into windows, the background loads and then a coupe of seconds later, the hard drive starts going nuts.

It makes a repeated pattern 1write, 2write, 3write, tick, tick

I ran norton disk doctor and surface scan runs and it will do the same thing in a particular spot. The obvious answer is corrupt sector, but it wont repair the sector.

Someone please don't tell me that I have to reformat my HD

Err, worse, sounds like you might want to consider replacing the HD...

You say it's an IBM hard drive...

What model is it?

The click of death is pretty famous when it comes to IBM 75GXP hard drives...

I'd suggest running the utilities that came with the drive to test if it's bad or not...

The other day I installed some windows updates for windows XP. After restarting, the hard drive made very loud clicking noises and was slower than dog crap. I ended up formatting the computer, putting on windows 2000 since I couldnt find my XP cd again. Ne wayz, no more loud clicking.....I really dont trust driver updates from MS anymore.

This wasnt for the comp in my sig...this was for a dell my dad uses downstairs.

it is actually the 15GB version of 75GXP

I've only heard of problems with the 45GB series.... man, my other 15gb is sure to follow sooner or later
