Something wrong with my eye?

Have you ever had a hair stuck to your glasses or on your face and see it out of the corner of you eye?

Well, I've been seeing what looks like a small white hair out of the bottom of my right eye for the past 3 weeks or so and I don't know what it is. There is no hair there that I can see. It's still there after I shower (I shower pretty much every day). I don't see it all the time, which is odd.

I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my eye.
I don't have any insurance yet (damn contract job) but I might have to bite the bullet and spend the money to have it looked at.

sounds like an "eye floatie" (dunno what the real term is... might be a cataract) ... i'd get it checked ASAP! Eyes arent something to mess around with, health wise..

You may have to see the eye doctors about that, they may be able to check it out for you. It may not be something you can handle with on your own.

went to an optometrist today and she said it could be a normal floater or it could be a detached/torn retina. I didn't have her look at it as she needed to dilate my pupils and I had no one to drive me home if it turned out that I couldn't see well enough to drive. She referred me to an opthamalogist and said i should call 1st thing monday and they should get me in ASAP.

went yesterday and they found that it is just a normal floater but they did find a small hole in my retina. he said it looks old but i have to go in tomorrow and see another doctor and probably have lasers shot into my eye.

Having them dilated has never kept me from driving, but it sure makes reading a bitch. When I got back after the last time, I had to increase the font size quite a bit to be able to post.

while i hate the site and saying, i think "fuck my life" applies in this situation...sure it could be worse, but still..

so went back and saw the other doctor today. they did the same exact tests they did on Monday and told me to come back next wednesday to do the "surgery". So they charged me another $140 for today and the quote for the surgery is $2600 - all of which has been and will be out of my own pocket, since temp. employees don't get insurance.

it's all due the day of surgery also. they are going to see if the doctor will give a discount since I am paying out of pocket. I doubt the discount would be very much anyway. guess i'll have to put it on credit card and then pay it off. I do have enough in savings/checking but that would wipe out about 1/3 or more of the money in the bank.

Playing devils advocate here. What are the consequences if you don't have the procedure? I find that I sometimes don't ask the right questions when around Doctors. I guess the point here is that surgeons like to perform surgery. It's what they do. The problem you went in for has been diagnosed as a floater. Is the surgery really necessary?

dang, sorry to hear it. But you must admit, the part about firing lasers into your eye to fix a hole does sound rather badass, no?

i guess liquid could fill in behind my eye...more costly and dangerous surgery down the road...
he said he would want to get it done if he was in my place...

Knowing that he'd be paying for it out of pocket if he was in your place?

i had the laser beams for a hole in the eye. no idea of the cost as it was all paid by insurance, but it's gonna be one painful ass experience.

its not like i knew it was there for years and never got it fixed.

i had the surgery today anyway. was pretty damn uncomfortable.
