Something wrong with my 3com card

I have a 3com 3c905B-TX Nic, and can't get it to work properly. Window98 (SE) detects it and I installed the drivers. It's in device manager and I can configure it in network properties. But when I connect it to either my Adsl modem or another comp nothing happens. No lamps on the nic light up and it can't connect. I've tried every imaginable config setup, I've moved it and everything else around on all the PCI slots, and lastly I tried to reassign the IRO's manually but no luck. Then I put in a cheap (<10$) nic and everything works great. Guess if I'm a bit frustrated. I figure the first card is broken, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any input that could be helpful.
