alright, i just built this computer, got all of the parts from newegg excluding the HD, which is not the problem. here is what originally was in it...

gigabyte k7 ga-7n400s-L motherboard
1 gb ddr 3200 dual channel corsair value select
xp3000+
30gb 7200rpm HD
rosewill case with 400w PS
*leadtek 6600gt

well, i first had all of that installed, put in the 6600gt, thought i had everything right. windows install went well, installed the 6600gt drivers, did all of the updates to sp2 and such, then installed splinter cell 2: pandora 2morrow or whatever, it came with the card and i decided to try it out. played it for a little, then it kicked me to desktop and crashed out the game...
so i looked over the net to see if there were issues with the game and card. updated the game, tried again, same BS. i then tried prince of persie, which also came with it, and it crashed within a few mins too to the desktop. i then tried counterstrike with steam, it also crashed in a few mins. i also tried a series of different drivers, read forums, searched, etc etc, nothing worked out. every time i used driver cleaner for the changes, because it is as awesome program and it works.

now, at the end of my rope, i decided to hell with the 6600gt, i am RMAing back to newegg. so i put in my old gf2 that i had lying around from ages ago. installed it, loaded drivers, played some counterstrike and BOOM! it crashes to desktop again, TWO TIMES.

idk what the hell is going on and i am getting frustrated. tomorrow, if i cant figure anything out, i am going to format and do this all over. by the way, i loaded the chipset drivers and newest bios also. does anyone have any idea what is going on?

PLEASE HELP!

your motherboard is probably defective....try reformatting your pc and check again. if it still gives the same problem im pretty sure its a motherboard problem. since you said that the GF2 is also crashing your 6600GT is perfect.

EDIT: is there anyway you can swap your 6600GT into another machine?

i have 3 cards to work with.

the 6600gt and gf2 both crash a few mins into games. i am pretty sure it is heat related as i idle at 65 degrees or so while surfing the net. the third card, 9700 pro, is not going in because the problem obviously isnt the cards...

I would say download Prime 95 and run the small FTT torture test. If prime doesn't crash in 5-10 minutes, see if you can find a copy of memtest off the net, make a bootable floppy with it, and run that for an hour.

Are you overclocked?

stock speeds, everything stock and auto for settings, nothing fancy going on here. where can i get prime 95 at?
