okay almost every message board has a "member status" section.. where it shows how many threads you've posted... and i post on around 5-6 message boards online... and i've noticed something.. the people with the most threads are usualy the ass holes or the people who think they are better for some reason b/c they spend more time on the board posting pointless flames or whatever...

i think the real status should be for how long you've been on the boards or a member...

the great thing about anandtech is that every one is pretty friendly and the things i've said above dont aply to these boards :)

but damn just go to the counter-strike boards or the day of defeat.. jsut pretty much game boards.... lots of childish kids who post pointless threads (kinda like this one haha)

b/c a new comer can post 10,000 threads in 2 weeks.. hwere someone who acualy takes time and posts only important thigns can post 100 threads in 2 months...

i dont know.. that's just my two cents i guess.... (be kind to me!!!)

That's precisely why someone's member status here holds no weight in whether or not I respect him or her. I look at the quality of people's posts, not the quantity. There are several people here with very few posts for whom I have more respect than some who are elite with thousands.

I don't really care about status either way. I'm just here to learn, observe, contribute, and enjoy myself. I've met some great people here, and believe me, their member status had nothing to do with it.

well think about your game message board for instance. If you go into counter-strike or any other game thread you'll always find a variance of age there. Ranging from 10-25+. There are lots of people that play couter-strike, many kids, many teenages, many young adults, and many adult. So you'll always get the "hey im better than you cause i have a high status" regardless of age (but mainly kids, since it gives them something over anyone).

But....here in AT, well, OT for the most part is a bit different. Here in OT the average age is early adult hood (17-23). I've noticed in all these "hey whats your age" threads and Polls, that this is sort of the average age, which I agree on, so thats why you don't really get that many kids calling you out just cause they are above you. Just my thought on it, I could be wrong. :p

danny~! :p

There's your problem right there. Its a younger age group. I avoid any and all forums related to things that attract mass numbers of 14yr olds. Same reason I stopped playing CS.

I do visit them occasionally. And you know, for all our neffing, at least we dont have people replying with "First Post" or "Reserving this spot for future use". Thats a screwed up trend I see a lot now.

Hey mods, if you're reading this, please add "first post" posts to your list of bannable offenses :D Don't let our maturity level plunge any further.

You can't beat the AnandTech forums for good, time wasting, work avoiding conversation.

That was the "before" me...

And even then, it's almost impossible. You'd have to nef 100% 24 hours.

Even 5 months is exaggerating...

KBrinks,

I agree, man. The only thing worse is people who post the same stupid observation that's been posted hundreds of times before.

See, that's what I've noticed too. I think a lot of it isn't the fact that we dont' get a lot of 10 year olds that just want to be cool and post there own thread about Jennifer Love Hewett... uh.. no insult intended danny. =) alot of the people here have some sense of responsiblity and have other things to do with their life that doens't revolve around a game.

Don't get me wrong I love games they are awesome. and a complete waste of time that I love. I'm part of the snes9x Message board which I don't post to often because it is getting out of control.

as far as the status goes. I don't give a damn if you a newbie an elite or a moderator if I don't like you, I don't like you. now for OBVIOUS reasons I respect the mods. *duh*:D

but I'll bet that we can do without the status. it's kind of an ego boost to see your status go from a junior to member to senior to gold. but it's no big deal.

The mods could change my status to "Nef-wanna-be" and I'd be happy.

If you have no personal integrity then status is important. It's a mask that many (not all) wear.

To refer to quantity-based titles (Junior, Senior, Diamond, et cetera) as "statuses" falsely implies some level of achievement. Any monkey with a keyboard and a modem can easily produce thousands of messages in a day.

To those who submit meaningless, annoying crap in order to up their post count, I say:

Up yours.
