Prisoners by Race Chart

According to this the number of blacks in prison has doubled, and this was in 1997. The white population increased by 2/3s but keep in mind this: 77% of the population in the U.S. is white while only 12.9% of the population is black. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out that blacks are HEAVILY over-represented in the prisons.

Here is a link to the population of the U.S. by ethnicity.

I would like to hear your opinion as to why you think this is, especially black forum members.

Wrong button pushed. I had to edit this to enter data.

Dissipate. This is a subject that interests me. Please let me present the things I think I know as facts. Please respond to the ones you think are not facts.

1. Proportionately more blacks are perpetrators of violent crimes than whites.

2. Blacks are the majority of victems of black violent crime.

3. Penalties for blacks and whites reflect a cultural bias, i.e., if you sell cocaine, you're a gentleman. If you sell crack, you're a criminal.

I believe that the criminal justice system is a stacked deck. But's let's see if we can agree on a few facts. Please note that I've posted no links.

First fact I know is a fact. Second fact I am not sure about but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Third fact in my opinion is not a fact. Selling cocaine or possessing it has serious penalties. As far as I know they are no less and no greater than selling/possessing crack. If you can provide evidence to the contrary, please do.

Whites and blacks don't commit crimes in the same proportion to one another?

The effects of racism are profound and long lasting. Blacks have been the dumping gr0unds of all of our cultures hate and that hate is enormous. Blacks can't hide like almost everybody else can in a generation.

Nah, I think that is a RACIST survey, and reason why is because whites are not 77% of the population, but actually alot lower.

Add it up...Blacks are 13% of the pop.
And Hispanics recently passed blacks as the #1 minority. Latinos are at 14 %.

That means a 27% minority population between blacks and hispanics.
100-27 = 73%.

Then add in the AzN's who are at 4%, the native americans at 1.5% and the Arabs who make up 1%, and you have a total of 67.5% white...and if you include the 14 million illegals in the country then whites are more realisticly at 59% of the pop, and shrinking.

So truth is, whites are actually over represented in prison aswell, just like blacks. That makes that article racist since it had to fabribate its numbers in a attempt to incriminate black people in the minds of gullible readers.

from the link:

white 77.1%, black 12.9%, Asian 4.2%, Amerindian and Alaska native 1.5%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.3%, other 4% (2000)
note: a separate listing for Hispanic is not included because the US Census Bureau considers Hispanic to mean a person of Latin American descent (including persons of Cuban, Mexican, or Puerto Rican origin) living in the US who may be of any race or ethnic group (white, black, Asian, etc.)

Thats stupid. You cant have a realistic survey if you dont include the entire population. Like i said, racist.

If a survey says that blacks are disproportionately represented in prisons, then it's obvious that either the survey is racist or that the police who did the arresting are racist.

Racism, poverty, fragmented families, and historical/physical/psychological break from ancestral home/culture. Let's face it, African-Americans have the deck stacked high against them.l

Whites are disproportionately represented to, thats my point.

The survey makes a false statement saying whites are 77% of the population [by purposely dis-cluding latinos to scew the article], and that since whites are 77%, its only realistic that they also make up around 70-80% of the prison population to.

Buuuut, Whites are not 77%, whites are 60% [im including illegals since they wont ever go home] of the population and also make up more than 60% of the prison's inmates.

There are many "white" Hispanics. The official 100% European white population is 69.x% if I remember correctly while the total white population is 77%. The same can be said about blacks... there are "black" africans and "black" hispanics. The presentation of the numbers in census reports can be very confusing and are often stated incorrectly by the media.. Also remember that there is a sizable number of eastern European and Russian in that illegals number. They don't all come from Mexico. :) Speaking of which, 10% of Mexicans are actually fully European Spanish while the others are a mix of Spanish and Natives. The lines are very blurred nowadays with people inter-mixing.

Well it's a fact that you get more years for selling or having crack cocaine on you then having the same amount but in the form of coke. I believe 5 grams of crack is about the same as having 500 grams of coke when it comes to jail time.

When you look at all crimes and all folks in prisions etc.. you simply see a glob... The folks in prision and the crimes committed are not informative of a whole lot.

The real salient points are in the types of crimes committed to start with and the demographic of where. You can then go on to the conviction rates, pleadings and all that related to the demographics... the who is convicted for what crimes.. etc..

I use to argue the unsolved crimes are committed by the folks that would even out the in prison statistics.. well.. I still can.. can't I.. :)

Take a poke at his meaning. It's good mental exersize. You don't want to get lazy and not have to work for meaning. If it's simple and easy it probably ain't worth much.

I'm talking about the same thing but, pointing out that the generalization is a problem. I think the unknown is who committed the crimes unsolved in both areas. To mention a population you have to use black folks convicted of crime.. maybe there is crime in other populations that if solved would equal out the analysis.

Maybe, but that is purely speculation. What we are dealing with here are cold hard statistics.

Theres a tiny minority of whites in mexico, true. Its also true that they control the country and its wealth, and so they have no reason to come to america. The truth is the vast vast majority of US hispanics are not white or black but are mestizos, so its ridiculous to count the tiny 1 or 2 % who are white and claim that its not possible to include the entire group in the survey because of that. Thats a copout plain and simple, and a easy way for the biggots in the government to leave them out so they can skew the survey.
